    Hi,

I've been searching for years for an external keyboard that feels as good as the ones on my Dell Inspirons. There are any number of "laptop-style" external keyboards on the market, but they all seem to use the plastic scissor switches with the little rubber nipple spring underneath, rather than the smooth spring steel mechanism that the Dells have. Yes, as my wife says I'm a fussy virgo, but I type a lot and it really matters to me (this is one reason I can't use a Mac laptop -- they use the rubber springs).
Has anyone seen the kind of thing I'm looking for? You can check the mechanism on your keyboard by prying off a key cap.

    Thanks in advance!

that's interesting, and I have to apologize that I just don't know how to direct you or help with this issue. Curious though, I don't think I've ever heard anyone claim a Dell Inspiron as having a superior keyboard. I use an IBM Thinkpad and Inspiron 600m currently, and have had various models from both manufacturers, and have always been diappointed with Dell compared to IBM keyboards. They tend to flex in the middle and not be sturdy, which is the case with my Inspiron 600m. So which Inspiron are you using that makes you want to replicate this keyboard for other uses?

that makes sense then, I veritably stab the keys when I type and tend to wear them down and rub off letters in no time.

Dell and Sony keyboards are similar actually (I just used the VAIO T series notebook and recall it being "Dell-like" in its feel), I can see how a light touch keyboard would work better for you. Good luck in your search.
