hi all
i just bought the MX 5000 keyboard and MX 1000 mouse combo today
i was just wondering how logitech deals with dead mouse battery before their 3 year warrenty runs out.
i know that the lithium ion battery will die within 2-3 years, i'm hopeful mine will die out before my warrenty runs out but has anyone had this happen?
does logitech pay for shiping and replacement?
has anyone had any problems with the battery in MX1000?
EDIT: has anyone had any luck using their MX 5000 to start up their computer? i'm used to using a PS2 connector keyboard that can start up the comp by pushing any button on it. is there a mod that can do the same for BT keyboard (though i doubt it)?
also, anyone know how to program the MX5000 to 1 button windows shutdown? all i've got is a crummy hibernate button

i think you can go into power saving features and tell it to ask you what to do when you hit the "suspend" or "sleep" button, that should do it. easiest way to get there is right click the desktop>properties>screen saver tab > power settings> advanced and then select what you want. i have mine ask me what to do so i never accidentally turn it off.

oh crap, i can't believe i typed MX 1010, i mean MX1000
sorry, new keyboard
lol
thanks kida, forgot about that function -
Logitech customer support is awesome. Anytime I've had a problem, they've shipped me a new part, free of charge, and not requested the old one back. However, if they discontinue your product, you could have issues, cuz they'll send you the upgraded version. I had a problem with my MX3100 and they sent me the MX5000 set, which I couldn't use, bluetooth + bootloader = no go.

My MX5000 at work and at home works for restarting the computer from sleep. Dunno of any keyboards that restart it from off, if you turn it off. IIRC I had to set the jumpers on the motherboard a certain way on the work computer to allow it to wake on a USB signal, might be something to look into if needed.

No, it has nothing to do with USB -- I use my MX3100 on usb (the problem was with the charger, so the one from the 5000 set fixed it and I'm still using the old one). But I couldnt get into BIOS with the BT keyboard and when GRUB loaded, I couldn't select between the options -- it just booted Gentoo, my default. At that point I just shut down the computer and plugged in another keyboard and said fukit to the BT model.

Our MX5000 set at work does operate with the BIOS on that computer. Only OS for now is XP though.

Does the computer you're using it with have internal BT or just the dongle? I was using the dongle with my desktop and it wasn't happy at all.
