Okay, I'v narrowed my search down to these two optical mice....(logitech optical notebook plus, targus retractable) any opinions would be appreciated...I like the targus' retractable cord but wonder if it is one more thing to break...and which one is a bit moe ergonomic? Thanks

I'd like to bump this thread. I'm also considering the targus retractable laser mouse, and I can't find any reviews. I'm also considering the logitech 518 full-size regular gaming mouse. I want something that is decent for accuracy and response for games and photos, but I also would like something with some degree of portability.

I'm partial to Logitech myself, though I don't have much experience with Targus.

I have the Logitech V200, and I love it. Super long battery life, tracks well, and even has a tilt wheel!

I'm thinking about getting a Logitech V200 myself for my upcoming V2000Z that or the Logitech® Cordless Mini Optical Mouse.

I got a Logitech V200 yesterday for my notebook. I'm very happy with it. Works great.

Since nobody seems to know anything about the Targus retractable laser mouse, I thought I'd write a little review here.
Ideally, I would've wanted a Bluetooth mouse with NO lag or hibernate restart time, with no need to change pointer speed settings, and good battery life. I couldn't find anything that fit those criteria though. I don't want a dongle mouse- one more thing to lose/break off. That left a wired mouse as my best option, so I got the Targus retractable laser mouse mentioned above. It fits all of my criteria except for the cordless one. The cord is very thin and unobtrusive, and retracts in a very quick, practical, handy way. Layeout is a compact (thought not sub-compact) two button scroll mouse- pretty standard. It is small enough to be portable, but big enough to be relatively comfortable. It is definitely a compromise between those two ideals though. It is very responsive and tracks well over any surface- it should be pretty good for fine detail work and gaming. It worked fine as soon as I plugged it in. I didn't need to change any sensitivity settings or anything. It is pretty light weight, and glides well on my table top- very little friction. It doesn't glow like a regular optical mouse. The laser must be very small or on an invisible wavelength. The only real complaints I have are the price ($40), and the fact that you have to pick it up a little higher than normal to move the mouse around without the pointer moving. This is probably a compromise for having a mouse that can track on irregular surfaces. Both issues are noticable, but not that bad.
Overall, it is a pretty good mouse. It is nothing to get all excited about, but I'm definitely satisfied it'll meet my needs well. -
regarding not seeing the laser, my MX1000 is labeled as having the laser wavelength between 832 and 852 nm, well outside human sight.

I've been using the Logitech optical notebook mouse and I highly recommend it. Its VERY cheap (cost me under $15), very accurate (typical Logitech), and the wrap around cord is very handy when travelling. I like it so much that I bought 3, one for work, one for my house, and another one I gave to my mom.
I've had several cordless mouse these past few years (2 Logitechs and 1 bluetooth mouse) and none satisfies me. Cordless is very nice but its a hassle to suddenly have to replace batteries when youre doing something important. The Bluetooth mouse I got broke within 2 months of getting it.
Funny that I was looking for some high tech mouse before when in fact, a simple mouse w/ wire management was the best solution.

I would have to ask why everyone must have the tiniest mouse possible. I mean, the size difference isn't going to be significant really.
I'd say skip the gimmickey things and either get a cheap logitech mouse like the M-BJ58. If you want a gaming mouse, I highly recommend the logitech G5. -

Don't know why people need a wireless mouse for notebook.
Anyway, I like my Small 800DPI retractable mouse from LG.
It's a gift, not for sell to public.....!

I got a free Targus mouse with my laptop case, it has the retractable mechanism like the one shown above. I find this feature annoying, the wire/cable is very thin and due to the storage wheel device the wire wants to curl back up even when it's extended, which is a real pain. Having the wheel part hanging the middle of the wire is also annoying. I would not recommend it.

I have no problem with the retractable mechanism.
The mouse is small, the wire is thin & easy to carry.
The retractable mechanism hanging at the middle
of the wire is not annoying at all because I am using my
notebook on the table....!

I have a Targus but it is labelled Toshiba, I got it when I got my laptop for about $20 extra. I actually like the retractable feature. I bought a generic normal sized optical mouse for around the house, I just use the Targus/Toshiba when I am away from home.

I guess the hanging mechanism is ok but I was using it last night and the way the cord curls up when you're trying to use it is really annoying.
logitech or targus notebook mouse
