I'm looking for a display stand that will support my 27" pb278q monitor and to also allow for me to dock my 17" laptop beneath it.

My monitor has Vesa mounts on the back. Asus documentation says that the monitor is approximately 20 lbs net. and 25 lbs gross. I'm not sure if that means with/without the base, or the shipping weight.

Here is a photo describing kindof what I'm looking for... http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/3610/img1uqw.jpg . Unfortunately, that one in the photo only supports 17" - 24" displays.

Or even simpler... just an elevated tray for the monitor with space beneath it for a docked 17" laptop (Dell M6500 - approx 15.5" wide).

It needs to be stable of course, and if a simple tray then not too tall since I'd be utilizing the Asus base which will add to the height of the display

Any suggestions? I'd prefer not to go over $100 but I will consider it if good design/quality.

    Thanks

Check ebay for "hp monitor stand" - the basic one where you just put the monitor on is really cheap when used. It is meant to hold 21" CRT so a 27" LCD will not be a problem :)

Cool, thanks KLF. The "HP Monitor Stand" shows it can handle up to 100 lbs!

But it looks like it is meant to accommodate an HP laptop port replicator/dock in a slide out lower tray... see photo: http://ak1.ostkcdn.com/images/products/74/320/L13532401.jpg

The HP stand has little proprietary tabs for attaching the HP replicator to it. I have a Dell, so I wonder if I could just remove that slide out tray on the HP stand and lay the dell replicator in it's place.

My only concert is maybe the Dell dock won't fit in there or looks clutsy. Here is the dell replicator I have and it is pretty bulky (Dell E-Port Plus Advanced Replication) http://www.simplemicro.com/images/shop/product_images/9329/dell_eport_plus_pro3x_1.jpg

I'll look for something similar to that HP though. Maybe DELL has something similar and just as strong.

I believe I found a DELL product that should work perfect with my replicator dock. Basically just like the HP design but for a Dell replicator.

Yea, I think all the major brands have some kind of a stand available in their business line.
My future plans include this one:

Great thing about those is that they don't actually wear in use and they are worth nothing when sold (compared to the price when new) so they are usually a great bargain.

My follow-up suggestion to the HP stand would have been dremel, glue, tape... Basically if it won't fit, make it fit :D That won't be necessary however since you apparently found a better choise already :) Just make sure the stand is wide enough to fit modern 17" laptop.
