i want to get a tablet, but dont know anything about it.
i have a laptop that i take to school everyday, and want to get a tablet to copy all the notes by hand, then transfer it to the computer.
i also want to use it as a tablet for photoshop.
i found this:
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2659034&CatId=140
but dont know if it will be good as a tablet in photoshop. is there anything better?
i saw this for 100$
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10093008&catid=20393
but dont think it will work good as a note taking pad, but will the first one in the link work as well as this (in photoshop)?
thanks (i want something < 200$)
i also want it to be pretty thin and portable, but something that works really good.

i have the wacom tablet (the second one) you showed. it works good and works in photoshop. i originally intended to use it for school but that never really happened. desks are too small for my laptop and a tablet. it looks like the first one would be better for school and the second one would be decent all around.

wacom tablets are the best hands down.
i've got an old intuos2 and cintiq which I use a lot (photoshop/animation). -
I don't have that exact tablet (I have the Wacom Intuos4 Medium) so I can't tell you how well the Bamboo would work in PS but I can tell you that if you do buy a wacom tablet, buy it from Amazon.com. The Bamboo Small is $59.10 currently: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...t_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance plus free shipping. That's how I got mine (free shipping was pretty fast too, I got it in 4 days).
Also, if you have some editions of XP/Vista and 7, there's an application called Windows Journal that looks like a lined paper notebook (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Journal) included. (It's in your start menu or under Accessories). I've used my tablet and an old graphire tablet with it and it works well. I know Vista Home Premium and Ultimate has it (I don't have access to other versions of Windows.
MS OneNote also works with tablets (I had my mom correct some of her students's Chinese homework with it). If you go to college, you can probably pick up a copy of the program for $30. Or, if you want and have the funds and don't have Office 2007 yet, you can purchase Office 2007 Ultimate (which includes OneNote, regular office, and other stuff) using MS's Ultimate Steal for $59.95+tax, etc, which I highly recommend. Mine came to $83.90 because I opted to get the DVD ($13) instead of just downloading the program). Ultimate Steal is found here: http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx
Hope this helps, at all. -
you could also look at the webshop of wacom they sell refurbished demo models with warrenty they check and clean everything it can save you quite some money.
https://direct.wacom.com/stores/5/Refurbished_Tablets_C71.cfm
Not sure how useful this is for taking notes tho, the 1st link is only useful for taking notes don't think it's pressure sensitive etc. the wacom is much better for photoshop.
Never seen the 1st item in action but I've used ocr software in the past and wasnt very impressed, how good is your handwriting cause most of that software freaks out if you don't write like a typewriter -

thanks for all the help.
this is mostly going to be used for photoshop and school notes, and this one http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2659034&CatId=140 i can take to school without my laptop, and save everything.
ive never owned a tablet, so i dont really know how they work, (pressure sensitive etc). i like the 1st one because its full sized paper ( 8 1/2 x 11), i can just use any ink in the pen and any paper. it has a cap for the pen so it works as a tablet without paper, but i just dont know how well it will work in photoshop. i havent seen any reviews for the device as a graphics tablet, but its got great reviews for notes. it says it can be used as a graphics tablet, but i dont know what to compare it with since ive never used a real one.
if anyone can find a video or a review of the first one as a graphics tablet, that would be great as i couldnt find one. if i cant make up my mind, im just going to pick up the 1st one tomorrow and test it out. if it works good in photoshop for what i need it for, i might just keep it.
my only complaint about the second one is that its not full size for paper and my laptop has to be on and with it to use it as a note taker. i want it to replace all of my binders of paper, into one thin clipboard. -

**** i also saw this one today http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1648350&CatId=140
which one will be better as a graphics tablet since their both good for notes?
thanks. ( this is the main question ive been wanting to know) -
Well I'm not 100% sure but I think the solidtek can't be used to draw in photoshop it only lets you upload something you've drawn earlier so you can't for instance touch up your drawing/photo/whatver live in photoshop.
The Adesso CyberPad I think claims to be able to do that.
If you want to use the tablet to be able to touch up images or draw in realtime on your computer screen that's something to check out beforehand.
The wacom tablets aren't really aimed at notetaking; if you're serious about using a graphics tablet for drawing you should go wacom for notetaking not so much.
But I am curious how these notetaking pads perform so let us know if you get one please
looking for a good cheap tablet
