Sony is the only one that I know of making these for the desktop and they're going to be expensive.

it seems that you are totally right Brian. I talked it over with some guys at a computer store and they also stated that Sony's Xbrite LCDs haven't been selling well because their glare is much worse than that on a laptop, and other manufacturers don't really seem to be pushing a non-laptop glossy LCD.

Glossy screen s**ks, they reflects everything. If you take it outdoor, you'll have a hard time finding a spot with minimal reflection to use it.

Goren you might want to check the latest screens offered by shuttle. theay are designed to be portable so they are a bit pricey. But they are fitted with an anti-glare coating. + they have a small profile and take little space on your desk. They also offer very low latency and are even directed towards gamers.

Those screens are originally designed for use with shuttle's SFF XPCs. I am not sure if you can see them at any retail store, but newegg sells them.

BTW shuttle is extremely slow at getting new models to the US, so I am not sure if their newest 8ms sreens made it here yet.

Lapboy, it's totally a personal preference. I find my N6's screen very pleasant on my eyes. I am in front of my laptop for almost 10 hours a day (I do all my university work on a computer), and I don't feel my eyes strained at all. The sharpness that a glossy type screen offers is exceptional.

Goren, I was curious about the shuttles so I looked it up. Newegg got the new 8ms screens ( http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824201006 ) and they also have the older 16ms ones.
And here is a review that I remembered reading about the XP17, but this is for the 16ms version. I think the 8ms one is gonna be almost the same other than the faster refresh. http://www.sudhian.com/showdocs.cfm?aid=601

good that i am usefull![ :D]

Actually i was considering a shuttle before i got my N6. But the model that i wanted was delayed + I thought I'd like to keep my desk space as much as possible.

If you want something totally advanced check out the SN25P. based on the latest nvidia chipset and pretty powerful when coupled with AMD latest processors. + it is PCI-EX!
If you fancy an intel stick with one of the models that has a P at the end. All models that end with P are based on the latest case designs which are inspired by the BTX that intel proposed a few years back to eventually replace the current ATX standard (if you're interested, BTX resembels apples G5). So in short, "P" cases will run cooler and less noisy!

BTW there are bags for both the cases and the monitor. Pretty mobile if you don't need to take your keyboard with you.

If you are stranded for info on shuttle or any other SFF, the site I gave you for the review www.sudhian.com have pretty good forums, with some pretty knowledgable people + there is one of shuttle's USA employees who posts there, so you can get accurate info (if i am not mistaken his screen name is "odie")

    ENJOY THE SHUTTLE EXPERIENCE!

    qwester-

I agree the glossy screen looks very beutifull.

But you cannot deny that the reflections are annoying and lighting conditions will cause problems.

    Cheers
