    Hi all,

My hard drive appears to be on its last legs and I think it might be causing some bad burns when I back up my DVD's. So I want to try using an 8GB flash drive to store the disc images during burns to see if I get better results. There are a bunch of Samsung, Sandisc and Kingston memory sticks on ebay in the $20-30 range and I just wanted to get some advice on which drive to pick. I think for my purposes read/wright speeds are of the essence, but the ads tend not to list specific info about speeds, which makes me suspicious of the quality of the drives. For some reason reviews of flash drives are hard to find, so any advice would be much appreciated! Please include specific info about drives, such as model names/numbers, etc.

    Thanks,
    cej

I can't vouch for any of the other ones, but I have a Sandisk Micro Cruzer Titanium 2gb, and when I was reading reviews before I got it, it seems to have a much lower failure rate than it's competition.

The fastest drives are made by OCZ I believe.

As Speedy said, the Cruzer Titaniums are a good choice although the regular ones are alright as well (albeit somewhat slower). From my experiences the low end Transcend and Kingston (ex. Datatraveler) are really slow and useless.

I second/third the cruzer titanium recommendation, however you should be aware that the max size on the titanium series is only 4 gb (which is available new for 24.98 at JR.com)

    Good Luck

Thanks for all your replies, look like there's a consensus for the cruzer drives. I really need 8 GB for those big DVD image files, so I guess I'll try one of the regular ones--doesn't need to be super fast, as long as it's not less than 10 mb/second it should work for me.

This is what you need. It is very fast, and durable. I have had mine for a year, washed it three times and have never used the cap to protect it (lost it). It is still going strong; no wiggle at the USB plug.
