I would like to have recommendations for a durable 17" laptop bag for my new HP dv9636. Any recommendations please?

Consider the Targus XL or the Kensington Contour.

    I'd suggest a Heys ePac.
I own a Heys ePac17 for my 17" Sager and I really recommend it.

Have a look at this topic for pictures of my backpack loaded with books.

Note that I was told they only ship in Canada. So if you live in the U.S. you're out of luck for this bag.

If you don't mind the branding, the Dell XPS bag for the m1730 has tons of pockets, a space for a full size keyboard, and removable "tray" that has even more pockets and cd storage.

If money is no object the big Tumi bags fit my 17" dell M90 perfectly. I have the 26150 model. Fits perfectly under airplane seats too. Very well constructed bag, highly recommend it. Previous to that I had a The North face Offsite which worked well too. I just picked up a Booq Phython XL off of ebay for less then a C-note, but from everything I have read about Booq bags they are very high quality.

I own a pakuma choroka k1, fantastic bag, looks great (and not like a laptop bag, unless thieves can pick out the pakuma logo), is very durable, and fits a lot of 17" laptops (the max height is listed as 26cm or something, but ive been able to fit an m9750 in there which is almost 30cm high, and about 14 pockets for all kinds of different things, and although you can't fill them all at once, i easily managed: an ipod, 2 books, a camera, m9750, power adapter, cd case with 30+ cd/dvds, a change of clothes, wallet, phone, and some other assorted bits without any problems.

I got the Mobile Edge Securepack. This thing rocks! Super sturdy, enough space for all your accessories, and very secure. Plus people can't open up the laptop while you are carrying it. The load distribution is very very nice too. I have a Sager 5793, and with all the other stuff I put in the pack (power adapter, mouse, earphones, CDs), the pack is very light on my back. Can't recommend this enough.

I own a Sager NP 5791 which technically a 17', but most 17' bags I tried for it were too small. I ended up getting a Targus Flare which I love. It has plenty of padding and extra pockets for all the other crap I take with me.

I'd recommend Waterfield Design bags/sleeves from SFBags. They're relatively expensive but very nice and very durable, and they come in pretty much every size.

I checked that site and these are the recommended bags when I searched by the type of lappy I have. I am also more interested in a backpack than a case plus those recommendations doesnt necessarily fit me :)
