For some reason my cpu is running pretty hot (mid 80s C, unless Notebook Hardware Control is wrong) even though I have integrated graphics card and 5400 rpm hd. The actual computer isnt hot, but the air coming from the side fan is VERY hot.

It gets this hot when playing Americas Army. Even though i have the crap graphics card, it runs absolutely perfect on mid-high settings. But im guessing this is really taxing my system.

Besides that, it runs at about 44C when doing normal tasks.

I have been rigging a small fan (about 7in. diameter) to point towards the side fan, and it gets the temp down to high 70s while gaming, low 30s when just browsing. This is kind of working, but I want a cooler to do it, and hopefully do a better job.

Obviously, the M1210 is a 12 inch laptop. Im looking for one with these features

-Not wobbly, since ill be gaming
-Does at least an okay job at cooling, im just sick of super hot temps
    -Not too huge
-Semi-quiet. I dont want anything that is like a leafblower lol. Something with the same noise as a normal fan, a definitely audible noise, but quiet enough so you can still read etc. Ill be in a dorm and wont want to disturb my roommate
    -Cheap would be nice to

You could sell what you have (or return if it you recently got it, but restocking fee!) and get the m1210 with the dedicated graphics. It WILL NOT solve the heating problem - in fact, probably, it will make it worse. IF your laptop doesn't 'feel' hot, then I don't think its an issue. (although 80 deg C sounds high, especially since its twice the idle temp).

It is hard to avoid heat with high end notebooks.

I dont really care about dedicated graphics. I only play older games and AA. Any more ideas for a cooler?

    Cooling Ideas

    -undervolting
-applying thermal paste to your cpu
-getting an external fan pad (eg, targus)
    -underclocking cpu/gpu
-crank A/C in your room to max

The 1210 does get that hot, its very powerful for its small size, and that equals lots of heat. Yeah it gets really hot while gaming, bit I dont notice and it dosent bug me. If it was dangerous it would let you know. I guess its all about personal preference, but a cooler isnt required.

How do you check the temperature. Do you have to have a special program?

or you can get i8kfan and just turn your fan on high all the time. but that will do a number on your battery. I dont know if its bad to run your fan at high all the time though...
