I just ordered my dv5t this morning and now need a messenger bag for it. I need some input on these two timbuk2 bags. I have had a timbuk2 messenger bag now for 5+ years and it is just as sturdy as the day I bought it. I was hoping to get one for my laptop. I will be carrying around several thick books (my physics book is 1600 pages) so enough space for these is a must. It would be nice to have compartments for an AC adapter and pens and things.
This bag has more compartments which would be nice for things, but I am concerned how the dv5t will fit:

This one is the large, which should be big enough for the dv5t but it doesn't have as many compartments:

I was leaning towards the commute but I don't enough if its roomy enough. Any opinions are welcome.

the medium bag doesnt fit that dv5t that well. you may have to modify the bag a little. The dv5 is two wide or something, dont know but there was a topic i created about the bag on there and pictures of a timbuk 2 with the bag.
If your still interested, i have a 50$ coupon im trying to sell off for 28$ and with that you could get a timbuk 2 medium sized bag for about 58$ shipped off hp.com
Thought I would offer it to you. -
the reason it wont fit with some modifications because of the hinge.

SpireUSA.com has some incredible messenger bags. LOADS of room, not too bulky, great workmanship, great customer service. I have two of their messenger bags.

The timbuk2 Commute is available in Large at rei.com in 2 color options.
It has more than enough room for a Dv5t... it holds my m1530 in the dedicated pouch with enough room on the sides to make it easy to grap the laptop with both hand when extracting it... at only two inches wider than my old medium commute... its great!
it holds an 800 page book, m1530 , 2 half inch binders, my planner, 2 composition books, water bottle and my ipod... with plenty of inerior pockets for pencils and incidentals aswell as several "lined" pouches for cell phones and pda's (lined with same material used in laptop pouch)
just a word of advice... the large laptop messenger is freaking HUGE... timbuk2 does vary its definition of large from model to model, just fyi
PS as for the physics book, if its a wiley physics book, it'll fit for sure -
Try the Targus Miami City Gear Messenger Laptop Bag. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...r+Bag&lp=7&type=product&cp=1&id=1083713711275
I have it, and there's lots of room. But the only bad thing is that the shoulder padding is bad, and that's probably it. Sometimes, the bag looks pretty bulky, and if your shoulders are tired from letting the bag hang, you can carry it like a briefcase.
Oh yeah, I carry my laptop, Gateway MT6459 (15.4"), cell phone, water bottle, wallet, mouse, mousepad, ac charger, phone usb charger, bluetooth usb charger, my folder, a few pen and pencils. There's a few small pockets in the front also. I don't think it's big enough to fit two or more books though. But I usually carry my books, so I wouldn't know. -
How big is the m1530?
edit: nvm it seems to be 1.38" at its thickest. Ok how much extra room do you have in the Commute bag for your m1530? I would only need about a half inch more to fit the dv5t in there. -
I have a timbuk2 laptop messenger (same as the classic messenger but with laptop sleeve sewn in) in medium and it fits my M1530 pretty well. It's definitely snug but I know its not going anywhere. I looked at the commute but for myself I think the seperate zippered areas for the laptop and the main compartment takes up more space than it's worth. I like the single large compartment. Plus with the laptop messenger the strap is sewn on, where as the commute has D-rings with clips doesn't seem as durable to me.
