I ordered a zx5000 last week and was looking for some tips on some accessories. I like the idea of having a cordless mouse (less to get wrapped up when moving around) and have read great reviews on the mx700 from logitech. does anyone have any first hand experience with that one? does anyone recommend anything else?

as far as cases, i would like something that fits my 15.4" widescreen and will also serve as my typical briefcase-like carry stuff to work case when not transporting my notebook. since that is the case, i'd like something nice looking (no backpacks). i'll only be transporting the notebook every couple weeks from home to a hotel (not constantly moving). i'd like to keep the price under 80 bucks.

oh yeah. i'm also looking into a headset mike for use when playing multiplayer online games. i have zero knowledge of those. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Mouse: I've been using the HP wireless mouse sold in Radio Shack. 30 bucks, rechargeable NiMH batteries, wireless...no real complaints. There have been quite a few people happy with the Logitech MX series.

Case: Check out http:://www.ebags.com. They have a nice selection of bags for laptops, some including removable sleeves. It price isn't an option, also check out Victorinox computer bags. Most come with their CS2 sleeve which is a hardened, removable sleeve. Very nicely made and comes with drop protection.

Headset: I've never used for a laptop. I would suggest either Logitech or Plantronics for exceptional quality.

i've got an mx700. it's just too awesome. however, wouldn't that be a hassle to use for your laptop? you need to attach the base and plug it to an outlet and all to use it... i use the mx700 for my desktop but for my notebook i use the logitech cordless mouse for notebooks. it's just too cool. not too small not too big. i can use it up to 8 ft. away (just for testing purposes hehe). no lag at all. the only difference is the mx engine, which i don't think i'd really need for the notebook. it reads better on the harder-to-use-with-optical-mouse surfaces. just my 2 cents [ :D] my second option was the microsoft notebook optical mouse (white one), really nice and light but i liked the sturdier built and the wireless feature of the logitech.hope this helps!

I went with the MX700 because I wanted a full-sized mouse (mainly for gaming). I'm a big guy (6'3") and the smaller ones didn't feel right. Plus, about the only time I'll need to use the mouse vs. the touchpad is when I'm sitting down playing games so plugging it in wouldn't be an issue.

I also ordered the logitech extreme gaming headset. Hopefully it works well.

I'm still undecided on the case. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should be happy with Logitech. I have always found their products to be high quality and dependable. When it comes to microphones and cellular headsets, I use Logitech and Plantronics exclusively.

Case/sleeve wise...how often do you plan to haul your laptop around? If you're going to be mobile a good deal of time, I would suggest a bag with a removable sleeve. This way you have something to stow your gear and you get a sleeve for your laptop. If you plan to only transport it occasionaly, Case Logic makes neoprene sleeves for about $15.00. No drop protection, but very good protection from the elements...water, dust, etc.

If you are considering the mx700 because you want to have a cordless mouse, dont go for it.

Rather have a look at the mx900. The mx900 is a little bit more expensive than the mx700, but it is worth it. With the mx700, you always have to have the large wireless hub plugged in. But the mx900 is Bluetooth. If you have internal Bluetooth, you don't have to plug in a single cable! It works all by itself! I have one, it's excellent and well worth it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'm going to keep the MX700 I ordered and use it with my old desktop. The mouse works great. I don't think it will work that great for traveling though.

So, I need some other suggestions for a mouse for my notebook. I can't use the MX900 since I didn't get Bluetooth on my machine. (Didn't think I'd need it... now I wish I had it [xx(]) Can anyone recommend a nice, full-size, wireless, non-Bluetooth, mouse that I can use with my notebook?

Also, any other case suggestions for the zx5000 w/ 15.4" widescreen?

    Thanks again!

I went in to a luggage store at the mall the other day and saw a super nice case made by a brand called Briggs & Riley. It was pretty expensive($200) but came with a lifetime guarantee and looked extremely well built. Plus, it had a very comfortable shoulder strap, which would be extremely helpful for my heavy zx5000 and all its gadgets. Does anyone have any experience with this brand? I couldn't find much elsewhere.

    Thanks again.
