I've got an e1520 on the way, which has built-in bluetooth. However, before I actually buy a BT mouse, I was wondering if there was any difference performance-wise between a BT mouse and a normal USB-wireless mouse.
Thanks.

yep. there is a major performance difference between ubs mice and bt mice. there will be noticeable lag on even higher quality bt mice compared to some of the cheapest usb mice.
if you want to play fast paced games, for example, you will need a usb mouse, no choice. it will be basically impossible to play with a bluetooth mouse, you will get agitated and quit.
for general desktop work, where the things you need to click on are static, a bluetooth mouse is usually acceptable, and perhaps the convenience of no wires outweighs the performance deficit.
also- i should add that there IS one wireless mouse you can use for gaming, and that is the logitech g7, which does NOT use bluetooth, and you will need a special adapter to plug into your laptop. -
You don't actually have to make use of the built in bt
I don't
Gaming mice, usual suggestions:
Logitech MX518
Logitech G5 (newer model has 2 thumb buttons vs 1, worse colour scheme)
Logitech G7
Razer DiamondBack
Razer Copperhead
Razer DeathAdder (own)
Normal mice:
tbh any. The free mouse I got with the laptop was fine until I accidentally dropped the receiver and a speeding bullet of golden retriever muscle rushed over. Kept getting drop-outs after that. Saying that I own the Logitech VX Revolution -
The VX Revolution is actually what I was thinking about getting. I saw one in Best Buy and I liked it. The only thing that stopped me from buying it was the fact that I spent the 16 bucks to get the included bluetooth in my new laptop, and sorta wanted to use it for something. I'll probably end up with the Revolution though; thanks for the help guys.

If you are playing games, stick to USB mouses.

USB is best, as others have said. Plus with USB mouse, it's bus-powered so you don't need to worry about batteries.

Get the microsoft wireless laser mouse 8000.
Best BT mouse I've ever used. As good as a wired laser mouse and good enough for gaming. Super smooth and responsive and virtually no interference when transferring large files via wifi. -
I'd stick with the usb, but you can get a cool bluetooth headset to use the capability ..

sorry but i play a hell of a lot of games and i use the Microsoft BT Laser 8000 and i find it is just as good as a decent USB mouse. The lag is not really noticeable and i dont have to worry about batteries because it comes with a rechargeable battery and a fancy charger pad.

oh and is compatible with built in bluetooth!

I like the MS mice, and for me, the whole idea of having built-in bluetooth in a notebook is so I don't have to carry around protruding, USB port snapping, dongles, or USB cabled mouse. -

For Canadian users out there, Canada Computers has a refurbed version of logtiech v270 for $20 + tax. You can also get a retail silver edition there for $53 (tax already included)
The thing is.. the peroformance and design of the mouse over the price.
The BT Laser 8000 costs around $90 + tax which is 70 dollars over the refurbed v270 or 40 dollars more than the retail version.
Is it really worth this premium price? -
The V270 came free with my laptop, again it is a great mouse and is compatible with built in bt. The only problem i found with it was that it didnt have enough buttons. Again the reliability and lack of lag was great!
mouse: bluetooth or usb?
