    I have 17" dv7 laptop
    [IMG]

I don't like all coolers because they are to tall so I try make own cooler which is low.I bought targus with 2 fans in the middle but fans don't match my fan. They cool very good memory.Only 5C lower.

I bought cooling grid at bed bath and beyond for 6.99$
    [IMG]

I cut front legs and raise rear a bit
    [IMG]

I use thick plastic tape and door trim from pepboys
and small fan from local pc store
    [IMG]

done and 10C lower with this small fan
maybe I should buy biger fan or second fan to install in the moddle where other two vents are?I don't want burn my motherboard.

You actually may want to raise it a bit more. more space underneath the fan will allow for higher air flow through the fan.

    Otherwise looking good!

How sturdy is the cooler? I have a few of these cooling grids at home, but they are all quite flexible.

my laptop is exactly the same size as grid so when I put my laptop on top it's stable

now I take apart that targus and will make it lower and relocate fans
    will report back in hour

I move fans to top left corner on targus cooler to match my laptop fan. They use small screws (glue only on fabric)

when I use only top half the air flow is slow
probably I will put back bottom part (small screws so no problem)

    no cooler
    CPU 46
    GPU 49

    modded targus
    CPU 40
    GPU 45

    room temp is 27C

    FINALLY!
Someone else who uses a cookie sheet under their notebook!

I like to use the 3/16" thick cookie sheets that are air-filled, and made like this:

    1/16" Stamped aluminum
    1/16" Air
    1/16" Stamped aluminum

The top layer of aluminum draws heat,
The air layer insulates the heat from the lower layer of aluminum
The lower layer stays cool and comfortable :)

ok guys,I was not happy what I made yestarday so today I try one more time. This time I use plywood, staples, vinyl, crazy glue, screws itd
You can use formica laminate or just paint that playwood.
when browsing I have 36C (each core 32-34) on CPU and 42 on GPU
I run CPU test GO-Orthos for 30 minutes and I have 64C max

you can try running more voltage to the fans, i used to run 18 volts on a 12 volt fan, much more airflow....

right now i have 2 adapters hooked up together running 30 volts to 3 fans all requiring 12 volts each... if i ever get bored ima hook up another adapter and hopefully over volt the fans for more airflow

    now I connect to USB
if I try more voltage the fans will spin faster? if yes this mean more noise.now is quiet.

anyone can sugest to install some light or sign in the front of this cooler? some gadget etc

Yes, if you add more voltage you will get faster fans, usb is running 5 volts. while there is more noise if you have faster fans, I dont really notice it. I have 2 120mm fans and a 80mm fan and its a kind of quiet whoosh.

Lights wise you can buy fans that have built in LEDs like the ones i have. It actually looks pretty good when u turn the lights off and the mesh fractures the light

nah dont bother buying one for this purpose. Just go around your house and look at the power adapters that you have sitting around. I found that router power adapters tend to be the smallest 12v sizes. Then all you gotta do is attack one wire to the outside of the plug, and another touching the contacts inside the plug and viola 12v power supply

sweet work man, I love it, expecially with the leather-look!

Maybe add some dust filters and some extra fans. And if you really want to pimp it, maybe get some leds :p

    anyway, nice job!

Out of curiosity. Where do you go about getting fans like that? I wanna make my own cooler. I am sick of coolers that do almost nothing because your laptop fan / where your laptop gets hot is nowhere near the cooler's fan.
