I will be getting my 15.4" laptop very soon and I will be needing to get a cordless mouse. It will be used for both gaming and surfing the web. I do not do any type of photoshop work. Also, I do not have bluetooth. I am looking for one that meets the following requirements:
* It does not have to be specifically a notebook mouse
* It must have at least 5 buttons and 2 buttons must be on the side for the thumb are the forward/back button
* all buttons must be able to program as very few games have support for more than 3 buttons
* holds a charge for a good length of time ( that would automatically rule out the G7 even if had the 2 side buttons as I heard the charge lasts a day)
* would like to keep the cost to no more than $50
* be a plus it it would work good on non traditional surfaces such as leg, bed, couch, etc. otherwise may have to use a book etc to use the mouse or get a long laptop desk wide enough to hold laptop and mouse.
The previous cordless mouse I have used which I loved was the logitech mx700 but with that big receiver it is not very good to use unless you are at a desk and I will not be with my laptop.
The logitech mx1000 is too big/bulky for my hands
It is too bad there is no cordless version of the logitech mx 518. that feels like a nice comfortable mouse.
any mouse suggested would be one i would have to be able to test out the feel in a local store such as best buy or CompUSA.

Hi there,
give the new Logitech MX/VX Revolution a go...i've got one of the VX Revolutions and i think it's brilliant..i take it everywhere my laptop goes...but i'm not so sure about how it goes with your price and programmable buttons restrictions... -
Agree with Majestic, also bought myself one last week
-
Have you used the vx revolution mouse for gaming. I know it isn't advertised as a gaming mouse but would like to know how well it does for that.

I've been thinking about getting a VX Revolution as well, but it looks pretty bulky for a laptop mouse. How is the battery life on that as well?
-
It's not bulky. Battery life is great.

VX revolution
LOVE IT! -
gaming on it isn't bad...i've used it @ gaming lounges b4 playing bf2...beats the hell outta the crappy el-cheapo mice they use...much more accurate plus since it's a little bigger than other notebook mice you should find them more comfortable...i also have a Microsoft Laser 6000 notebook mouse as well...that's 2 small for my liking...
-
As for battery life...it's been 2 months since I've had it so I can't tell you but it also depends on what type of battery you use and how many hours a day the mouse is being used. -
I just bought the VX Revolution and it's worth every penny. It's small enough to be very portable but not too small to be uncomfortable. Gaming is fine as it has zero lag; comparable to a corded mouse. Battery life is very good as well, and it only uses one AA battery at a time.

A couple of more questions about the VX mouse:
the quick scrolling feature: can it be turned off so you can just scroll one page at a time. I don't think i could ever get used to that based on my experience of quick scroll when I had opera installed. it was awful for me. I was unable to control the scrolling.
I read something about the middle mouse button being hard to press especially if you are the type who does not or cannot press hard.
Amazon currently has a $20 rebate which expires this weekend which would bring it down to $40 so now is the time to get it. -
the quick scrolling feature can be turned off...there's like a little switch at the bottom of the mouse which selects which "mode" u want to be in...free spinning mode or normal "geared" mode...the middle button's not hard to press at all...well i don't find it difficult to press...

Another vote for the VX Revolution. Not sure what you all have paid, but at 60 bucks on sale, I thought it was a great find.
