The Z-2300 are really good speakers. You can also consider the Bose Companion 2 speakers, which I think are the best 2.0 speakers for under $100. They cost $99.

I'm no expert on audio, but I have the Z-2300 speakers and they are phenomenal. There is no speaker system that will beat them for the price. The subwoofer is very powerful and will do some serious shakage to whatever room you are in. And, they get so loud . . . I've never been able to reach the limit. I always get scared because I know listening to audio that loud is no good. ;)

The Z-2300's are an awesome speaker for the money, although you may also want to look at the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1... you should be able to find these for under $100 USD if you scrounge a little.

Klipsch Pro Media 2.0 are fantastic. I think they are the best 2.0 system under $100. You should be able to pick a pair up for around $80. I don't particularly care for the Bose sound. If your looking for more expensive speakers check out Swann.

you could also look at the Creative L3800, sometimes they have good deals on them. I got my pair for less than $50USD.

the klipsch and logitech's are nice for around $100. If you're lacking in space, the Klipsch sub is smaller in size compared to the giant sub of the Logitech.

Any Logitech Z-series product is awesome. I own the Z-5500 and my cousin owns the Z-2300...the only difference that you can really tell is the bass.

IMO the Klipsch is better than the Logitech. I just love the upfront sound of the horn speakers. The Klipsch Promedia 2.1's are $111 at amazon. Go with those!

I agree. I think Klipsch make the best of the lower price systems out there. The 2.1s are a good deal. Creative are o.k. but they lack the dynamics and the openess that the Klipsch give you.

I'd agree that the klipsch speakers give a better overall sound while the logitech's are great for people who love tons of bass and boomy-ness...not that the klipsch lack any boom.

Well, I agree with some, but honestly, for a sub $100 2.1 speakers you aren't going to get much, z2300 are ok, but aren't the greatest. Klipsch are also decent but not the greatest, creative aswell. If you want the best sound none of these will deliver. Everything has pros/cons, you just have to weight them and see if they are worth or not.

So your recommendation for speakers under $100 is "spend more money"?

No, all I am saying is that for $100 between what you can get on the market there is absolutely no "best" one amongst them. Using myself as an example, I have the creative l3800 because I got it for cheap. But, other than that I wouldn't have gotten it.

In the range of $100 each has pros and cons, just because someone says the z2300 are the greatest doesn't mean it is, people tend to exaggerate the product because they seem to like it, not that is a bad thing.

If I were to recommend a speaker less than $100 all are fine. But, of course if you spend more you can get something better. To summarize/conclude, if you can go and listen to the speakers and weight the pros/cons before buying.

Usually, in cheap speakers, what people are looking for is the one that does the least wrong. An example would be a speaker that gives you enough low end while maintaining some clarity and detail. Creative and Klipsch give you a decent set of compromisses. Cheap speakers like Phillips and Altec Lansing are pretty bad. Anyways you should never buy a speaker system without listening to it.

I had a cheap $15 set of Lansing's and they did just fine for everyday 2.0 use.

But obviously for severe gaming, music, video, Logi IMO (and Bose) owns everything.

I prefer Swan. They make a great pair of monitiors for $200. There more along the lines of home stereo quality then computer quality.

I was looking for a 2.1 set for a LONG time and I had decided between the Creative L3800, Logitech X-230, Logitech Z-2300, and the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 (the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 and the Klipsch GMX are about the same price and I've read better reviews for the Promedia 2.1). At normal prices, for price/performance ratio, I believe the X-230 will get you the most bang for the buck. However, as someone's pointed out, the Creatives go on sale quite a lot. I've seen it on sale at Circuit City twice for $50 after rebate, dunno how you feel about two mail in rebates each for $50 (so you have to pay $150+sales tax initially). If I could, I would have rather gotten the L3800 at $50 than my current Z-2300s. Though I would never pay the retail price for the L3800...it retails for the same amount as the Z-2300 and Klipsch Promedias. If you shop around, you can find both the Z-2300 and Promedias for under 100. I wouldn't recommend Amazon, their shipping charges are hella high. And with your $20 off coupon, with shipping the speakers would come out to like...$130 still, not $90. I've found the cheapest site to be techonweb.com for these two sets. (Resellerratings has high markings for them. For the Promedias you'll have use the search bar for them on the site, they're not listed under the 2.1 speakers last time I checked.) I got my Z-2300 from that site for $114 shipper to Seattle, and they're in Miami. After I found the Klipsch Promedia on that site for like $15 more I got mad at myself. While the Z-2300 does have a GREAT bass...it's fricken HUGE. I've also read that the Klipschs are clearer on the mid to high range.

    My two cents.

As long as you properly use the Equalizer and sound settings on your computer, then the z-2300's are a bit clearer. Also the sub is very nice with shaking things, and does get a bit boomy when its at max base. But best bang for buck.

    All these suggestion are great.

Yes, for gaming and movies, the Logitech is superb. The bass is the focus of the Logitech.

The Klipsch are my personal favorite. It's a better system for midrange, and thus gets better results for music.
