Howdy everyone. About a year and a half ago I bought Sennheiser's PX100 headphones. They were cheap, sounded great, and I was very happy with them. Now I need 2.1 speakers that hopefully sound the same, for the same low price (well, $100 bucks or under).

First of all though, I work at best buy in Canada. So, preferably I'd like to get speakers from there, because of the staff discount.

A few speakers that I have been looking at:

    Creative T20's

    Logitech Z4's
    Altec Lansing V2421's
    Philip's MMS321/17's
    And Bose Companion 2's

The Bose speakers I added on the end after a lot of thinking. I have looked through the countless pages of websites talking about how much Bose sucks, how their marketing is awesome, but the actual product is lacking, and how their product demo's are horrible representations of their actual sound quality.

I have been told that the Bose companion 2's have good highs and lows. I am not much of an aficionado with sound, so I don't even know what I am listening for when I am trying to judge how good the highs and lows are. The only thing I can compare the sound of speakers with is my PX100's.

So, do the PX100's have bad mids? if so, then I'd probably be happy with the Bose speakers then, Since I like the sound of the Px100's...

Honestly though I have no idea. I have listened to the demo's we have in the store, but because of all the background noise, it is hard to tell how good they are. And I know that almost any speaker, unless they are really bad quality, sound good at high volume which is what I wound need to hear them in store.

Sorry about the lengthy post, please let me know if you have any input at all :) Reputation for everyone :p

definitely the Z-4...but, I betcha for just a wee bit more, you could find the Logitech Z-2300's at like $120ish or so. look up NCIX.com and use shopbot.ca to pricematch there :)

good suggestion except for the fact that even when they're on sale, they're twice his stated operating budget.

Off topic, but where did you get cheap PX100? It is so pricy here in Canada (commonly $80+)

Undaunted, if you don't know about NCIX.com yet, then please, let me introduce you to the absolute best CDN online retailer there is!

at the same time, let me show you shopbot.ca, a most powerful pricematching website.

also...to confuse you, NCIX is the main parent company, but there are several shell companies off of it that are online only (NCIX has 4 physical stores and a head office as well as a warehouse in the Vancouver area)...Direct Canada, NX Source and TD Direct.

TD Direct is the one I'm gonna mention now, as they have the PX100's listed for $55, which is hella cheaper then the $80 you mentioned. on top of that, I found it via shopbot.ca and would order it from NCIX.com by pricematching TD Direct's. if you have to have it shipped, I would look into getting a VIP account. if you have no idea what a VIP account is, just make a post on the NCIX forums and ask for Mr. Friendly (which is me) and I'll help explain it to you.

without further ado, the link to $55 PX100's:

over and over again I hear about the Klipsch speakers you mention syndrome... I did read something about their durability being not so great, but a lot of people say they sound excellent. I really wish Best Buy sold em :(. Anyways I'm working from 1:30 to 10pm today, so I'm sure there will be some downtime in there for me to compare the Z4's with the Z2300's... I'll also let you all know how much of a markup there is :p

Regarding the PX100's I got them from tigerdirect.ca. they were on sale at the time for 39.99. after shipping it came to about 55 bucks, but was still half decent. The ones sold at future shop cost the company 44 bucks to put em on the shelf. They sell them for 80 bucks.

Yeah but I live in Canada.. could order it, but wouldn't get staff discount from mail orders to my knowledge. The bestbuy in canada and the US are two separate entities, just like future shop up here and best buy. We are owned by the same share holders, but thats about the only similarity (and the same crappy in-house brands).

I'm leaning towards the Z4's, as I had a very knowledgeable customer tell me about his experiences with them today, as well as the logitech X540's and the Z-2300's. Apparently, the Z4's are the best, since I don't want to shake my house with bass.

The Z-2300's cost 230$ regular price. The store pays 125$ to put it on the shelf.

Z4's are 135$, and only cost the store 67 bucks to put on the shelf. Once more, I was amazed by the margins.

The worst offender of margins is printer cables. 2 bucks to make em, 30 bucks regular price. thats more than a 1000% markup. I wish I had a racket like that.
