I have a Toshiba Sat Pro a200 laptop and after new speakers.
Been told the Logitech g51's are good - read they run 5.1 on 2.1 or something. Any ideas on whether i could run these speakers . I have this video card in my laptop - Realtek ALC268.
Thanks for thoughts.
Edit: Also, if I couldn't run the full 5 speakers, could I just run with the 2 and sub and later when i get my own place just add the other 3 when I get a desktop?

i think your laptop only supports 2.1 sound natively, but with an external sound card ( http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=208&product=16642 , for example), you should be able to use 5.1 without much difficulties.

ok thanks. I was just wondering as the g51 says this -
Matrix mode creates 5.1 surround sound from 2-channel stereo sound source.
Also, how would i use that external card as I can't see any slots it would slide into.
Seeing as I couldn't use that one then - would Altec Lansing ATP3 2.1 be good? just wanting to upgrade my r20 speakers. -

If i got this external sound card, could i use 5.1 speakers with it?

matrix sound is like dolby pro logic but worse. It tries to guess where it should go.
