How does usb speaker compare to conventional speaker if mobility is not a problem?

To be more specific, I am looking at Klipsch Promedia 2.0 and Altec Lansing XT1

They have their own onboard audio cards. So if you have a snazzy onboard audio card, don't get the USB speakers.

P.S. I have the Logitech V20 USB, so far so good for a $40 investment.

Not sure how much the Klipsch Promedia's are, but if they're in the range of $100, you should consider the Logitech Z-2300's.

They sell for around $100, and are amazing! Check out the reviews from over 200 happy owners of the Logitech's on Amazon! I don't know of another product that gets such consistantly high ratings as these speakers. They will blow you away!

Ever checked out the Klipsch iFi? Great set of 2.1 speakers.
