    hi everyone,

I bought a hp pavilliond4 which has hdmi tv out and my tv has no hdmi or dvi or vga it has only s-video and 5rca, so i bought this hdmi to 5rca cable and when i connect the cable to tv and laptop, actually the laptop should detect the secondary screen but it is not doing and i even tried using the function key f4 and i even went into graphic properties but it did not detect the external screen . so my question is whether can i connect tv with this cable to a laptop if yes do i have to change any setting ? or the cable is not working? please help me in solving this . thank you in advance

Does your laptop only have a HDMI output? It should have an additional (lower quality) output for situations such as yours. Why don't you use that? Otherwise, I suggest updating your tv.

digital to analog wont work. You need a converter not just an adapter.

hdmi -> analog is very expensive.

You can do hdmi -- dvi without a converter.

Im willing to bet your laptop has a vga out, thats going to be your best bet.

VGA --> Component is like $35 vs the hdmi option probably around $100
