I recently purchased an HP dv1000. I am going on a road trip in the near future and would like to play dvd's or music from my laptop in my car and possibly have the sound come through my car speakers. Do I just need a car adapter and a radio transmitter? I'm looking to decent sound if it goes through the car speakers...if not, from the laptop would do. Any suggestions? If so, does brand matter?

There are a bunch of small transmitters available that send the audio to your FM radio. Some work lots better than others. You'll also need an inverter to run your laptop. The right size is 150 to 200% the power rating of your laptop's power brick. An inveter can be used for for other things, like cell phone chargers and costs a lot less than a car power supply.
