I bought a refurbished Logitech V220 notebook mouse. Big mistake. It doesn't work. I have read on one site of some people buying this mouse refurbished and they had all sorts of problems. They didn't work and they were told to run some Logitech connect software. It sounds like this mouse is of poor quality and I'm not even talking about the horrible design for changing the battery.

I don't even know if it's worth the trouble but I cannot get a refund as the place only takes returns/exchanges or store credit.

    I think my options are:
    1) return mouse for another one
    2) return mouse and try to replace with a wired one
    3) return mouse and buy something else with the store credit
    4) throw current mouse in the garbage and consider wasted money as a lesson

    Any others?

I just thought it would be convenient to have a wireless mouse with my laptop as it seems somewhat silly to have something wired with it. That is, if I am using the laptop somewhere via wireless. Also, I don't mind the trackpoint and all but sometimes my hand/fingers get tired and I thought that wouldn't happen as much with a notebook mouse.

I would want something that doesn't require a Windows-only download or Windows-based software utility. I need plug and play.

Any recommendations (besides not buying refurbished stuff?)?

Ask the retailer if you could exchange it for its little brother the V200. Preferably new, if not take the store credit. The V200 does not need any kind of software, drivers... every computer that I plugged it in comes up instantly, works on any surface and has a decent wireless range. I'm really happy with this mouse. Take the store credit and reconsider something else don't just throw away your money. There's nothing good to learn from that. Oh try different batteries in your new mouse, the LED on the back comes on when you lift it up, hit RESET on the back of the mouse.

The retailer is sold out of the V200 (checked their website).

I tried different batteries. I was going to use rechargeable batteries with the mouse but I tried another alkaline AA battery that was operating a small portable clock. But, it didn't help.

Sorry to hear. I just remembered there's a low battery indicator on the mouse so that LED should come up if batteries were the problem. Ask for an exchange is your only option I guess. If someone's been inside that mouse to service it they screwed it up most likely. Try to insert the USB dongle back into the mouse a couple times and try it again if that doesn't work then it's probably defective. When you insert the dongle back into the mouse it turns it off. Is there an LED lit on the back of the mouse? When you bring the back of the mouse close to your ear is there a noise coming out of it?

I took it back and they tested it. 'Didn't work. Then the sales guy tested two others which also didn't work. I don't know if someone forgot to fix them and sent them all these defective mice or what. So, I had to choose something else and took a USB Flash thumb drive, 8GB, from Super Talent. I am not sure if it's any good but it was $5 more than the mouse. The only thing I don't like about it is it has a cap but at least, I've heard of them.

I am not sure what to do about a notebook mouse. I would like one as it would allow me to use my notebook for longer, I think. But, I will avoid Logitech. I think they're going down hill and their mice are just as high-priced as MS mice.

Which wireless notebook mouse is good, then, that isn't Logitech? I would consider ebay but then again, that is scary, too. Besides the shipping making it practically the same price as one in a local retail store, maybe just go without or buy an overpriced one?

If you have a Costco by you, they have the Logitech VX for $29.99 (not on sale). The "high-end" series of Logitech mouse have very good build quality. I have a G5, MX 1100, and a VX Revolution.
