Hey everyone. Recently I just bought the new ipod touch (2nd generation). Very excited about it, but I found out that it might not charge through the old ipod chargers.

    it looks like this...

    I have:
    iPod 3rd gen classic 40gb
    ipod mini
    ipod nano 2nd gen
    ipod nano 3rd gen
    iPhone

They all charge using either the USB chargerm, or the firewire charger.

Prior to the 3rd gen iPod classic, Apple used a different connector, but with the 3rd Gen iPod classic forward, they have used the dock connector with either firewire or USB. I find them all to be interchangeable. The only one that is not interchangeable, of course, is the original connector before the 3rd gen classic. (But this goes VERY far back because I got my 3rd gen classic in October 2003. The dock connector has been in use since then.)

It should make no difference at all. I have used the two interchangeably.

For example, I have accidentally grabbed my firewire charger when going out on a trip, and I was able to charge my iPhone. The iPhone came with the USB charger. I have also charged my iPhone through the firewire port of my Macbook.

I just found out that the ipod 2nd generation touch and 3g iphone does not support the firewire charger. So this is for future people's reference that it will not work =/

Thanks for the info. I will have to remember that when/if I trade in my iphone 1st gen. I was an early adopter but I decided to skip the 3g iPhone. I'll wait for the 3rd gen. My 1st gen is doing well by me.

    Thanks for the info.

Yeah, apple is dumping firewire and moving on to USB. I believe 2G iphones can, but the newer 3G iPhones can't. Neither will the new generation ipod touches... Not sure about the nanos.
