Are they a thing of the past? Anyone had good or bad experiences with them? I'm looking at the Toshiba Tecra A5 and it seems like the port replicator would be useful for my nightly journey from the home office to the couch. Thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Rufus

I think it depends on how mobile you are and the PITA factor associated with plugging in all your stuff each time. I use a docking station and am thrilled Fujitsu included that option with this model revision.

I have a port replicator at work for my Thinkpad T42. I like it alot because you don't have to plug in any cables to the notebook and I use it just like a PC most of the time when I am at work. For the IBM I just pop it on the dock and to remove it I just push the button and lift it off, works great! I have an external keyboard and a 17" IBM LCD for work so it is a really slick setup!

So, my question is - can one do harm to your laptop if you use a Part Replicator and close the laptop screen? Does it add to overheating? I was sent a replicator from work and have been using it, but I want to be sure I don;t do any uneeded harm

You can't damage the computer by using it with the lid closed.
