    power adapter causes computer to flicker

    I have a dell inspiron 1100 whihc i have had for about 3 years now. recently i have had trouble with my power adapter not connecting properly, so i purchased a new one online.

    now my new power adaper charges the battery when my computer is off, but when it is on it might charge till the battery reaches about 60-70% then the screen starts to flicker and the battery does not charge any further.

    has anyone had any similar problems

    Hi.

    1 : did you buy a dell power adaptor?, or a cheap multi-laptop version.

    2 : does it have enough wattage? to charge the battery when the computer is on.

    3 : if it is a multi-laptop version is it set to the right output voltage, if it is set too low it wont charge your laptop fully.

    Yes it is a dell power adapter, exact same model number etc as the one i orignally got.

    the green light is always lit on the power adapter,

    how do u set the correct output voltage?

    if it is an original adaptor the voltage output is fixed.
