cn anyone recommend a decent printer for the above laptop for a college student?? He prefers an inkjet, says some projects are in color. i say a decent laser, but i wnt something compatible that will be decent for a few years. It will have to be compatible with Vista, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

As a college student I don't really see the need for a color printer...In fact I own a HP 1020 laserjet. I got it pretty cheap on newegg and love it. It prints quickly and I don't ever have to worry about running out of ink. My roommate has an inkjet that I could use if I needed color but I haven't needed it yet this year.

    It works fine in Vista.

There will always be someone in the dorm/hall who has a color printer if your son? needs one.

What kind of major/field is your student pursuing?

I vote the Laser Route as well. I have a laser printer, and I use it all the time and have spent very little to keep it full of toner. I have spent $400 (for the printer and all of the toner) in 2-3 years and printed near 16,000 pages. No inkjet will come close to that. If you need occasional color, make a friend.

P.S., my roommate has a color inkjet, he prints as much as I do, and has spent close to $200 on ink this year, I haven't had to replace mine this year.

I'd go with a Laser from HP. You can get them that do color, but aren't that great, but still do color. HP is a good brand of printers, all of the ones that I've worked with(I've set up alot of them) work smoothly.
