i am trying to connect my Laptop VIA HDMI into my HDTV HDMI.... and it's giving me a black screen....
-
Have you tried a HDMI -> DVI converter and connecting that to your TV?
It sounds like your output on the laptop may be bad. But DHCP should only effect material thats copy protected, i.e. Blu-Ray movies.
Also, have you tried connecting, then powering the TV on? I know I've seen laptops that had issues with S-Video out and you had to do that. Also, does your laptop recognize that you have connected something into the HDMI port? -
yes, laptop recognizes it.... i tried DVI to HDMI before, and it wouldn't work either....
-
Well... I have no idea. Only thing I can think of is that you're trying to output a resolution your tv cannot support.
-
no, if it was that the screen would say incompatible single,(which it does when i connect thru VGA at 1900x1200. ) thanks though

What kind of tv do you have? I had a westing house hdtv and it was very temperamental with the hdmi and dvi connection. Vga would work but not a digital signal. I called the tv company and they said I'm having a hand shaking problem. So I was going to try a different cable but then my dog knock my tv over and cracked the screen. So we went to best buy and bought a new tv, after that I tried the same cable on the new sony tv, and we had no problems connecting the laptop to the tv.

Something tells me the TV is fine just make sure its set for the input mode you want (digital hdmi whatever for your model).
I think the problem may be your laptop settings, you may have to manually tell the laptop to use the digital output, and maybe go into your advanced display settings and set a external monitor mode (clone, extend ect). Play around with it abit and see what happens.
Also if your using old drivers for your video card, update to some new ones. If your using 3rd party ones from laptopvideo2go you may want to try the stock ones meant for your laptop incase there is a model specific reason why new drivers wont work. -
Not sure if it helps you, but when I connect my M1530 to my Samsung LCD via HDMI I use the Fn+F8 combination on my laptop to set the output device to laptop -> laptop + external monitor -> external monitor only.
Since, I do not know what laptop you got I am not sure what will be the sequence to switch output video device on your particular model.
Also, if you go to the display properties (on Vista right-click on the desktop and go to personalize -> display settings) do you see your external HDTV in the drop down list? Check "Extend desktop onto this monitor" box - do you get the picture on the HDTV? -
Tell me your HDTV brand & Model & then i can help u.
U are just missing few steps i think -
hdtv - sharp, don't know where model is, the inputs are right, input 4 = hdmi, input 5 = hdmi (from my HDTV tv box), input 6 = PC (From my desktop)
so input 4 doesn't work, i tried the fn buttons, and the screen does pop up asking me to mirror onto all displays, it "says" its connected on my laptop but it shows a blank screen on the monitor...
no it is not a resolution problem.
my laptop is M15X with HDMI out.
my M5550 using DVI to HDMI does not work on my monitor either. -
anyone have an idea whats wrong??? i tried it on another HDTV, a sony one and it doesn't work there either!! :-/

Without re-reading the thread if I am not mistaken you have now tried more than one laptop and more than one tv??? so that means you need to try a new cord.
-
i've tried a dvi-hdmi laptop, a hdmi to hdmi, and to different HDTVs, sharp and sony makes.... the cord... my hdmi cord is new... and the DVI-HDMI cord is a vga with a dvi/vga adapter....
if that makes any sense at all... so theres been two cords tried too one for dvi, one for hdmi -

The HDMI cord may be broken, and DVI-->VGA only works with the right kind of DVI so its still possible that its the cord.

Make sure your TV is on and the input have to switch to whatever port you're connecting to before you switch on your laptop.
really annoyed at HDTV...
