I plan to buy a small and simple mp3 player. I'm looking for something that can be recognized as an external device in Windows and that supports drag&drop (or copy/paste) method of transferring files. SD card slot would be great. If it has a screen so I can see what's playing, it's a plus.
Ideally it would be in the price range ~$30. Buying in the US.
Any suggestions?
I was thinking of something like this: Newegg.com - SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 1.0" Black 2GB MP3 Player (I have my own earphones.) I dislike anything like iPods that would require crap like iTunes to do simple file copy.
Thanks!

you could also have a look at this one, not sure about its performance: CompUSA.com | 501441 | Archos 2 Vision 8GB MP3 Player -
If you are looking at that 2GB, and can deal with a "refurb", this site has it for $17.99 + $4.99 shipping = $22.98 shippedSite LINK It's a one day deal for 11/15/10.
Or, if you want new on that go thru amazon.com, its $31.23 with free shipping

I have the Sansa Clip+ v2 and it's pretty nice. Except for USB support Rockbox runs perfectly on it if you care and Linux detects it as a mass storage device if booted with the original firmware. So I guess Windows will do the same. I have an additional 8GB card in the slot and battery runtime is about 6 hours with Rockbox and mixed file types (mostly ogg/vorbis, some musepack and mp3). The CPU is fast enough to decode ogg/vorbis at ~250kbps, which my previous player, a Trekstor i.beat organix 2.0, could not do.
The only downside is a slight weakness in deep basses, which can almost be eliminated via the equalizer. I use Creative EP 630 earphones. -

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions! I like the Fuze version better.
What's the battery life on Fuze? 6 hours on Clip+ sounds kind of low.
I don't mind refurbs if they aren't scratched, so I'll be looking for deals on the Fuze for the black friday. This also looks like a nice deal:

Oh, if you do go thru buy.com you may want to check out Coupons, Promo Codes and Cash Back Savings - Ebates.com. Right now the CB on buy.com is between 2.5-5% (more savings)I believe first visit you can choose to bank money in your account or bet. a few discounts. You should get a popup. Oh thanks. So that's the successor of Bing Cashback ?
Yep I know its a refurb, but the price looks good. The new ones are ~$65, like on Amazon. For buy.com it says the refurbs are manufacturer-repackaged.
Cheers, I just signed up for that cashback website. -
Whatever one you decide on, I don't think you will go wrong. I think, you will like the Fuze better though!

it's a nice budget mp3 player. when my sony die i'll replace it with something in the same category.
just pair it with a decent earphone, and you'll be set for at least 2 years. -
Yeah, I agree. I have Razer Moray, that I already used with the iPhone and was very satisfied with the sound quality and noise cancellation.
