I am looking for a set of 2.0 speakers that has the highest possible sound quality at a reasonable price (less than $50).

I don't really care about how loud the bass is and loudness in general. My criteria for quality is balance, fidelity, and crispyness.

I am not interested in usb speakers either.

By the way, does anyone have any experience on Creative Lab I-Trigue 2200?
    That is my candidate#1.

If you can extend your budget beyond $50, I highly recommend the Klipsch Promedia 2.0 speakers, easily the best 2.0 speakers I've ever heard.

I second the Klipsch Promedia 2.0 speakers. They sound great. I got mine new on EBay for $50.

What about thin, light super portable speakers? Are there any of real quality out there?

Unless you need huge bass, the altec lansing xt1s are great, they can be powered off usb and are super portable and really good for travelling. find the cheapest price you can on the internet, print it out, and take it to future shop and they will price match. good luick

For travelling, the JBL On Tour is a reasonably small and compact speaker unit. The audio quality is very good and this unit should be on your short list. Or, for something a bit lighter, less expensive and less bass, look at the Creative Travel series.
