So while trolling the internet for cool things, I cam across Ikea hacks... one of them got my attention. It used ikea adjustable lamps to hold speakers up. The guy who did it used them to hold is 2.1 system and adjust them to where he wanted anytime he wanted. I expanded on this idea and used the laps to hold my rear surround speakers![]()

Now I can have my surround sound, then move the speakers up and out of the way. Plus, not having a wall behind me I couldnt mount the speakers to that. So this works great!

could be a little longer though....does it seem weird with sound coming above? or do you not notice?
-
Cant really notice, the speakers are actually right behind my head, angled in just a bit. Gives a nice surround feel... not as good my big system in my basement, but its pretty good for only being 18 bucks plus like 50 buck speakers.
-
Those overhanging speakers are legit. Totally awesome way to do that instead of nailing them to the walls. Props!
-
Here they are when folded up.
These 2 I put the chair in there so you can see about where the speakers are near your head.

Good thinking! I had those same logitech speakers (still do stashed away) and with some EQ, had a really good sound and then pieced together a Klipsch setup from 2 junk systems off ebay for about $75 and built a sealed .7cf enclosure, an 8" Tangband sub and a 240w dayton plate amp...
I like it almost as much as my LR system lol....
Nice wall color too...just helped some friends finish out an upstairs for an office and after sheetrocking/finishing, they picked almost the exact same color... -
That's one good idea. Props for sure.

Yeah, my wife loves painting everything grey! our kitchen is a lighter shade of gray, even the new living room set we got is grey.... lucky I get to do the whole basement, going dark red vintage movie theater look. -
Sorry OP but it doesn't work like that. Precise placement of speakers is a part of the surround sound technology. You can't just set them up will-nilly and call it surround sound.

lol, yes your right they are not perfect for surround sound. But with the nearest wall being 10 feet behind me, I cant put them anywhere else.
The movie theater I made in my basement has a much better 7.1 system with correct placement and alignment on all speakers. -

If you ever can get wireless speakers check out the chair mount idea....that might turn out well. Obviously wired wouldn't...*rolling over wires* ahhhhh stupid wires lol Or you spin in a circle after a kill and pull your computer off the desk/tire yourself up in cords ^^ -
Yea, I always wanted to mount them to the chair, but I need to be able to move around. Eventually I will be moving all my computer stuff into my basement, then get a all-in-one for my wife to have in the office.

The proper setup for surround sound is the standard stereo configuration in front and in the rear. The sub is the only driver where placement is variable.
It's important to note that the speaker placement is critical when attempting to recreate the aural environment that the originator intended. -

dont think that will work for proper surround, may sound good but not give proper isolation and positioning.

Problem with the wall behind me is that I am in a corner of a rectangular room... so the right rear speaker would be even further away... infact, it would be mounted to the door of the room if I went straight back.

So long as he knows what's correct, the amount of deviation from that standard, depends on his environment, and on his taste. -
hahaha loved it!

Wow, cool. It is really a good idea.
