Depends on how much your sub is vibrating (and how big your sub is). If you're playing music at any medium-loud volumes then i wouldn't suggest placing ur HDD on it. I can't be sure but i definately don't think its a good idea, especially if theres important stuff on your HD. I did an experiment on HDDs in college, the platters can be very fragile. If the vibrations where to cause the read head to touch the platter even the tiniest bit then your going to corrupt a track/sector.

i wouldn't risk it mate, too much vibrating. most of which are rather sudden bursts.

Don't do it. You have serious risk of damaging the harddrive. Not only from the vibrations that others mentioned but speakers, and subwoofers especially, come with huge magnets that generate a lot of magnetic fields, that can ruin your drive. Vibration and strong magnetic fields = very bad for your drive. :(

Yeah, a HDD is a bunch of domains which are magnetic, the data is changed from a 1 to a 0 or whatever with a magnet. So a powerful sub magnet could mess with it.

I saw it on MythBusters...magnets won't really effect the HDD too much, but the vibratings for sure will mess things up.

Bad idea, HD's are very sensitive to shock and vibrations.

The clearance between the head and platter is very small
