    ultimate laptop cooler

    Hi there, been wanting to share this for a wee while now but had to do some testing with it.

    First off here's my laptop specs;
    asus k53tk
    amd a6 3400m OC'd 2.3ghz no turbo
    7670m 1gb DDR3
    8gb RAM


    simply put, the most effective way to cool my laptop has been to grab one of these; http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=118

    grab a 12v 6W plug
    snip the power connectors off the fan wire and plug wire
    remove cable outer sheath
    twist the bunch of copper wires from the fan and power supply together (red wire with red wire, black wire with black wire
    apply electrical tape to exposed wires

    place fan at exhaust vent blowing UP the way, VERY IMPORTANT

    I'm using sleeping dogs to generate some heat which it does pretty well,
    --w/out fan OC'd 1.9ghz - after 5 minutes CPU 69.5C 100% load on all cores/ iGPU 69.0C/dGPU 70.5C

    --with fan@50% RPM OC'd 1.9ghz - " " " CPU 64.0C/ iGPU 64.1C/ dGPU 63.0C

    quite a difference with the fan. noted its running at 50% RPM (it comes with a control module) and still manages to cool beyond any laptop cooler i've seen.

    At higher clocks the difference is even bigger when using the fan. at 2.3ghz no boost my cpu reaches 71C/ dGPU 67C with the fan, but will easily reach 85C without.

    all in the fan and plug cost me £24. Because of this I can play final fantasy 13 (known for having stutter issues) with 16xAA @2.3ghz AND OC'd GPU from 600/900 to 660/1100 not a massive OC on the core speed but the difference is noticeable and so is the heat!! but the fan means i can play it buttery smooth with very high settings.

    anyways thought i'd make a post because as far as i'm concerned, blowing air into a laptop is like trying to get rid of a queue by piling more people onto the end of it... if the air is sucked out the exhaust vent it is far more effective, especially useful for these amd APU's which exponentially improve performance by OC'ing the CPU which in turn OC's the iGPU at the same time.

    UPDATE: i thought i'd try standing the fan up and putting it as close to the exhaust fan as possible running it at full speed... the results were pretty darn good.
    Playing final fantasy XIII with 16xAA, 768p and 2048x2048 shadows @2.5ghz CPU and oc'd GPU the temps were: CPU 61.8c/ iGPU 64.0c and dGPU 58.0c. I would post what th temps would be without the fan but 1.9ghz on the CPU produces 70C playing the same game, i would dread what these speeds would get to...

    UPDATE:
    it seems like the more heat you give this fan the more it can get rid of. @2.7ghz overclock the cpu and iGPU went to 65c and 66c with the GPU at 58c, i cant believe the capacity this fan has for cooling. 2.8ghz would be possible maybe just hitting the 70c mark. for a near 100% overclock that seems incredible to me to stay around 65c under load

    UPDATE: pasted the cpu and replaced memory pads, @2.6ghz and oc'd dGPU playing final fantasy 13 with the fan on the lowest setting only going to 61c cpu, 62c iGPU and 57c dGPU. cooling pad doesnt have a look in
