I'm looking at upgrading the hard drive in my envy 14 from the 750 gb 7200 rpm drive to a 256 gb ssd. I'm wanting to put my 750 gb drive in a usb 3.0 enclosure, but I've heard of a few people having problems with the enclosures running the 7200 rpm drives off of usb power. Have any of you guys ran into this, or if you have a usb 3.0 enclosure that does appear to work fine with a 7200 rpm drive could you recommend it?

If I have to I can always plug in to external power. It would just be nice having to use fewer cords.

I bought a USB 3.0 enclosure from eBay for $10, havent received it yet, but i am placing my 7200rpm 750gb hard drive in it, i dont see why there should be any problems since my usb 2.0 enclosure with the same drive runs fine. Will let you know anyway once i do get the usb 3 one.

You will likely need external power or an additional USB 2.0 port. At least that's what I needed for my Seagate 320GB 7200 RPM drive. However, this may not be the case with those supported OEM USB 3.0 ports since they have a higher power rating.
