Looking for a nice small/slim usb powered DVD/RW drive. Need it to be powered by one usb cord, not two.

    Any recommendations?

You're looking at the small slim-line laptop ODDs, or the bigger desktop ones....

Yes, small/slim. I like the Plextor one that opens up on top, but its needs two usb slots to work.

The LG GSA-E50L or E50N works for me off one USB cable although there is the option of using a second USB port for more power if the first one doesn't provide enough.

The Samsung SE-T084L will also work from a USB port, but what they don't tell you is that it runs at half speed if the mains PSU is not connected.

Or you could buy an internal slim-line drive and connect it via USB. (Should be relatively cheaper)

I ended up ordering the LG 50L from newegg. thanks! Looks to be exactly what I'm looking for. I have Sony Vaio UX coming next week and need something soon.

I hope the UX delivers enough power from one USB port to do the necessary. I tested the E50L with several notebooks and it worked fine for me, but I don't have one that small.

for future reference let us know whether it does the job.

I bought a Buffalo DVSM-P58U2/B that is powered by USB only.

Currently burning my recovery discs with and is working a treat with just one usb.

It's good to know there is another option.

What is the actual drive inside the Buffalo unit? (Device manager should give the model number).
