    Hi,

I was wondering if there was a way to hook my laptop up to a tv so I could basically view the videos on my computer on a tv. I have a Dell Inspiron 9300. Sorry if this question has already been addressed. Thanks.

Don't forget a 3.5mm-to-RCA audio cable if you want the sound coming from your TV as opposed to your laptop speakers.

    hi,

thanks for the responses. I am planning on using the cable to watch on the tv. However, I am concerned with the quality. Are there any settings you can adjust? The videos are DVD quality on my computer and widescreen, but will they be the same quality on the TV? Thanks!

You should reduce your resolution to 800x600 for ideal results on the TV. Mine is set up so that when you enable the TV output with function-f5 it automatically jumps from 1280x800 to 800x600.

Couldn't you buy a dvi-component adapter and run component cables to the tv to get a HD picture (1080 or 720)?

    Deaddy,

I hooked the cable up and everything turned out well, except after I switched to the TV and then back to my notebook the resolution changed. I went to switch my resolution back to normal (1440 x 900), but for some reason, that wasn't an option. So I restarted and it ended up going back to normal.

Could you tell me how you set it up so that when you switch between the laptop and TV, you can control the resolution for each mode? Do you think that would solve my resolution problem?

    Thanks!

you resolution should auto adjust to the tv's resolution when you Fn+F8, you don't need to change your notebook's LCD manually for it to work. then, when you hit Fn+F8 to go back to your notebook LCD, the resolution will go back to the correct one.

(note: on my 6000, it's F8, yours may be different)

I followed everything that you said, but when switching back from the tv to notebook, my notebook's resolution becomes much smaller than normal, and I can't change it back to normal unless I reboot.

I am looking for a S-video cable that will actually connect into my Dell E1705. I have tried *three* different S-video cables that plug fine into my tv but will not plug into the E1705. The design of the metal protection around the pins seemed to block it connecting. Just out of curiosity I removed the metal, and it allowed me to connect it to the E1705 with no problem. Of course that leaves the pins exposed though.

I went to Dell sales chat and the rep basically told me this was my only choice from Dell for a S-video cable that would work for the E1705: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=310-1695

I only need a S-video cable though, I own the other cable types they sell in that $19 set. Please could someone let me know if there is a S-video cable you know works that I could buy cheaper otherwise from someone who ships to APO addresses (such as Newegg, Amazon, etc).

I also wanted to get an Universal Auto/Air Adapter and I was told this was the only one Dell sold: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0406008

Over $100 is a bit much imo, does anyone know of any other 90 watt options to compare? I found one here but they don't ship to APO: http://www.ebatts.com/dell_inspiron-e1705_laptop_accessories.aspx
I noticed they show E1705 battery with extended battery life (6.6 vs 4.8 Amp Hours), not sure if anyone else sells those since sadly Ebatts.com has a poor rating: http://www.resellerratings.com/seller4740.html
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me.
