I have the SumDex and it's pretty good soft and, well, its really soft :p, but it depends what you mean as in 'impact'.

I only tried the SumDex so I can't comment on the others.

I have two different sleeves, and they serve entirely different purposes (I can't use both at the same time). One is the Vyper from Booqbags. It is a minimalist sleeve, very light and tight, with minimal padding. It is intended to prevent scratching, and seems to be intended for use when slipped inside a more substantial bag. It isn't going to give much protection from shocks. This is what I use for casual moving around when there is not a lot of jostling going on. It is expensive but VERY chic.

The other sleeve I use is the Brain Cell from Tom Bihn ( www.tombihn.com). It is slightly bulkier but very padded and practically indestructable. The website has a video of a laptop being dropped inside a Brain Cell from considerable height with no harm to the computer. It also slips inside of most other messenger bags and laptop cases. I use this case when travelling and things are getting bumped a lot.

These are both pricey items and I am sure that cheaper alternatives exist. In my case, I went from "college to corporate" and wanted to spend more for cool and efficient. Good luck deciding!! Doug

I'm personally looking for something that'll fit a 15.4" widescreen (HP zv6000)...seems to be kinda murky whether 15" cases will fit that or not...anyone here have one w/ the same specs I have?

I have the ZeroShock for my IBM Thinkpad. Most reviews say it gives the best protection, while the Booq Viper wins top honors for it's looks. However, I heard a few people saying they were disapointed in the Viper and returned it for a PowerSleeve.

I went with the Zeroshock, I almost got the Viper but I didn't like the canvas look it had on some pictures I seen of it. Plus everyone kepted saying the ZeroShock had better protection and that's what I was buying a sleeve for. The ZeroShock looks IMO a lot better in person, it doesn't feel cheap, the neroprene material is very hard (feels like heavy cardboard) until you hold it for a minute then it starts to slowly comform to your hand. It never becomes soft and its definitly not your TemperPedic mattress type neoprene.

When I'm just going to and from work or a friends house, I like just grabbing my ZeroShock protected Thinkpad and walking off. I have a simple messenger bag I hardly ever use because using just a sleeve is so much easier and quicker. Plus when walking around it just looks like your carrying a binder.

I like the look of the Shinza Zeroshock, my biggest concern is fitting my 15.4"...it appears that the zv6000 is larger than the interior of the 15" Zeroshock allows, which means I'd have to step up to the 17"...now it looks like that might be a tad more roomy than what may be good...does the laptop fit snug no matter the size in these (given there's an extra 1/2" give on either side?)

EDIT: Ok, just checked out the Shinza site a bit closer and there's a large and extra large option for the 15" bag too, and it appears the zv6000 will fit in the XL one (fit for widescreens). I'm noting this edit not only to point out my own stupidity  but to also document it in case someone in the future is looking to do the same thing.

Upon further review, it looks like the zv6000 measures 1.8 height and the XL allows for 1.57...I assume that it'll still fit fine...all other dimensions are fine.

Ok I'm done hijacking this thread... :(

I'm a big fan of the Sumdex sleeves. I really like the handles which allow it to be used as a stand-alone bag when you want to travel light. I have also heard good things about the Shinza, but have never seen one first-hand.

I forgot to mention that I'm getting one w/ a 12-cell battery so that may add a couple tenths of an inch.

i bought the shinza 15"XL for my acer ferarri 4005 and it's way too huge! there is almost two inches in extra depth and about 1.5 inches in extra width. I'm sending it back for the 15"L instead. It should fit better.
