I'm looking for some nice wireless headphones. Are there any that can work both wired and wireless?

I mean, that you can attach/detach the wire, and use them as normal headphones (no receiver or batteries needed) or wireless headphones, as you please?

    Thanks.

thanks, but I'm not looking for bluetooth headsets.... it drains cell phone battery too fast and price tends to be a lot higher...

Wireless headphones typically have much lower sound quality than wired headphones (because of compression artifacts in the wireless data transmission), are bulkier because they require batteries, and are going to be more expensive because of the wireless.

Is there a specific reason why you want wireless capability? Or are you thinking about it because it would be "neat" or "nice to have"?

About the only pair that I know of that works as a hybrid wired/wireless earphone is the Sleek Audio SA6 and the upcoming SA7. Technically, the former is not completely wireless, since it takes the form of a wireless transmitter bridged between the earphones. However, were the product not designed in such a way, earphone removal would likely be a nightmare. You can visit their website for further information.

I am unaware of any full-sized cans that have a hybrid design, though the yet-to-be unveiled Sleek Audio SA7 seem to represent the type of solution you seek.

Wireless headphones sound quality is not very good. Recommend you buy wired headphones.

I agree, wireless headphones are friggin terrible. There are many trade-offs going to wireless headphones, such as lower sound quality, bulkier headphones, and higher price.

But then again, there may be a legitimate reason why agusman wants or needs hybrid headphones. I think it's important to see whether a legitimate reason exists, or whether agusman is asking just because he thinks "wireless would be cool!" or "it's wireless, so it must be better".

You can get a pair of turtle beach X41s from amazon and they run about 150. I think they sound great and if you check out reviews online, most reviewers agree. The main issues are that some complain about crackling when near wireless G routers but I have yet to experience this. You can also get the X31 version from amazon for about 75 bucks too. They are similar except for the x41 is 7.1 simulated surround and the x31 is only stereo. Oh and even though they are advertised for the xbox 360, you can hook them up to anything that has a RCA/optical port.

its totally for a "nice to have" reason... I don't really need them to be wireless, I just thought it would be better not to have wires around.

But I didn't know about the lesser sound quality for wireless headphones, and now that I think of the bulkiness, I'll stray away from that...

Now I'm shopping for something compact, to fit in my laptop bag.

I have never heard any wireless headphones that sounded good, although I haven't tried that many pairs.

Check out the Koss PortaPro, they're pretty good and portable.

Do you need it to be a headset (microphone included), or do you just need them to be headphones? Keep in mind that there are trade-offs if you want a mic with your headphones, so it's not worth it to say "yes" unless you will actually be using your computer for in-game voice chat or VOIP.

And most importantly, what is your price range? I used to be really into headphones, so I can definitely make some recommendations for you.

    Thanks!

No mic needed. Actually, I specifically want one without mic.

and lets say less than USD 100.

I have no experience with noise cancelling, but I am considering those.

but my priority is that they are compact/portable.

I want to fit them in my bag along with my huge mouse and the incredibly bulky alienware ac adapter.

I would highly recommend Etymotic ER-6i headphones, or Klipsch Image S4 headphones. Small, highly portable, blocks out external sound when you're out and about.

I was planning on ordering online based on your suggestions, but I walked by a store and got a pair of Philips SBC HN110

I got to test them on a long bus ride, and the noise cancelling thingy actually works very well!

    thanks for the advice anyway.

Well, you can approach this from the other direction and get yourself something like a BH-214. It's a Bluetooth wireless remote with a standard headphone jack. Then just buy whatever headphone you want.

Or a Sony Ericsson MW600 (also bluetooth headset)
3.5mm (you can switch the headphone/earphone), OLED display for song title, built-in FM radio

Edit: but the more I read it, it looks like OP's not looking for wireless headphones anymore lol
