So I got the bright idea to purchase a wireless 360 controller for my notebook and I cannot get the dang thing to connect to the computer. After loading up the software I try to connect the controller to the wireless receiver but have been unable to make it work. Both devices will light up, the controller though will just keep flashing a full circle or continue spinning. If I press the buttons for the devices to connect they do respond with a change in the lights but a connection is never made. (The Xbox Guide button will never stop on the 1st player position to show it has made a connection and the software and my computer fails to show the connection as well.)

I have an Alienware Aurora 9700 with Vista Home Premium and have tried the 32bit Vista drivers from the Microsoft site but nothing helps.

I've turned to you guys before for last resort help and you've always helped me out. Please help make my purchase of this controller at least a little bit less of a mistake by being able to at least make it function correctly. ;)

Also, whenever I plug the wireless receiver in my Logitech G5 mouse stops working. Any ideas about this either? Thank you for anything you folks might know.

Try doing this: Uninstall the drivers and possibly unplug your mouse, just to make sure its not interfering with anything. Then plug in the wireless receiver and go to the Windows Update tab and download the new one from there. Then, let it do its thing and after it is done, the receiver should turn on. Mine automatically paired at this point, but yours doesn't, make the receiver search and make the controller broadcast.

Hopefully it works because I just tried this on my laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I did that and tested it via the control panel. Unfortunately, I have no idea regarding why your mouse isn't working, maybe try switching up the USB ports.

Odds are there is a signal clash and the xbox controller is dominating the band with the g5 mouse. You may not be able to use them together unfortunately. Although, I had a stuttering problem at first with my logitech wireless rumblepad and my VX revolution mouse but that disappeared after i upgraded the setpoint software for the mouse. Try upgrading the software to see if that solves the problem. Can't help ya with the other problem as i have gone the route of having mostly all logitech peripherals and they tend to work well together.

this might be a stupid question, but are you using the connect button on top of the controller and not just the xbox guide button to connect with?

There is a connect button as saintalfonzo said. You need to pair the devices first before you can use them :)

I was just about to add another comment about the sync button on the top of the controller...

Yes, the devices have to be sync'd just like when you hook-up a new controller, but it sounds like the mouse and controller are conflicting otherwise you wouldn't have the mouse stop working. Try with a different kind of mouse hooked-up and see if the controller works. If it does, replace your mouse. I have had my wireless Xbox 360 controllers hooked-up to three different computers and they worked with no problems. I have a cheap wireless mouse that somebody gave me, micro innovations, I think. I don't have any problems with it. You might try moving the wireless receivers farther apart, as well. Put one on one side of the computer, one on the other and route the wires opposite from the other one. See if that helps.

It might not be a wireless conflict, it could be a hardware conflict in the computer instead. Check in the Device Manager for any conflicts with red x's or yellow exclamation points. Check also for duplicate entries. If there are conflicts or duplicates, delete them all then reboot and let windows redetect and reinstall them. That may resolve the conflict.

maybe its the g5 drivers. I don't have that installed on my machine I am using the default that comes when I plug my mouse in. Maybe the official logitech mouse drivers are conflicting with the vista microsoft wireless drivers?

I just installed mine and they work perfectly so try this:

Download the driver which you should have already here

DO NOT plug any thing into USB ports
Install driver first, once complete, plug reciever in and pair the wireless controller, Thats it.

    Goodluck

That's how I run my wireless mouse, too. When I installed all the software, I had problems with the mouse, so I went with the default drivers and it works fine.

i went out and got the 360 wireless receiver the other day also for my m9750, tired of running mame and my other emulators with keyboard controls.

i have every usb port on my 9750 filled now with the wireless receiver but mine worked fine on first install, well not fine, i did have to unplug my 360 so i could resync one of my 3 spare controllers for use with the receiver. now after that, everything worked fine.

just have to install the receiver drivers first, then plug in the receiver, then hit the sync button on the controller then the sync button on the receiver, they should sync and work fine.

You don't even have to install the drivers first; I just plugged mine in to my new 9262, and the hardware found came-up, it automatically downloaded the driver from Windows Update and installed it, then I just sync'd it and started playing Crysis. Easy as pie...
