haha, that sucks! Link

At least, you're not the only one, so this means (logically) that Microsoft or someone else should come up with a fix.
-

I already posted this over in the other Zune thread, but reposting in case it helps someone:
Yeah, it only seems to be the 1st generation 30gb Zunes affected. It appears to be an issue with the clock, with many suspecting leap year/leap second issues with the most recent Firmware, though some have been reporting issues with FW's that have not been updated recently.
There are some workarounds reported (requiring a hard reset, requiring opening up the case and disconnecting the battery) but all are overly complicated compared to whatever M$ comes up with (be it a software update or replacement/rebate). The issue is only when the Zune is/was connected via cable to sync/dock. However, the only way to probably get a patch onto the Zune will be to drain the battery or (voiding whatever warranty some people still have) doing the hard reset.
Frankly, this is the ONLY issue I've ever had with my Zune, and frankly the interface, user experience, and PC software are superior to iTunes/iPod IMHO, so no regrets whatsoever. And I've dished out some pretty bad abuse to mine, and it's been ticking strong (aside from this clock related bug/crash). This is the only issue that I'm aware of with the Zune in recent news, and I don't understand how iPod fanboys/girls can justify blind judgement/condescension on such a robust device.
As long as you don't dock/sync it, you should be fine. Who knows what'll happen tomorrow - maybe everyone else's will wake up and just keep going like nothing ever happened. I feel bad for the poor SOBs that have to work on this issue on New Year's Eve. -
Could a MOD pleas merge the ZUNE 30gb=FAIL threads? Thank you. -Goodspeed

@zMatin
tbh, i really have no idea how they can fix this, if you can't boot past the default screen. you can't back/mid/left to reset it, and docking it does the exact same thing. -

Phew! Good thing I thought the Z30 was butt-ugly. I have a Z80 which is fantastic. Overall the Zune series are excellent DAPs. Better than iPod/iTunes, imo.
Hope Bill will skip the New Year's Eve festivities to bring you Z30 owners a hotfix. -
Creative FTW! I <3 my ZEN.... haha

I love multiple threads about the exact same thing. We should do this much more often.
