That's weird, the touch pad issues are only occurring when I use Firefox, but work properly with any other program or browser.

There's an issue with firefox and the synaptics drivers, or so I've read in multiple places. Assuming you can't scroll through firefox at some points. You can google it for more info.

How do I know if I have a 'good one'? :D Are we talking glare and what not?

All the screens on the TGs have glare and most should have bad viewing angles. I believe they are talking about the richness in colors and if the screens have any quilted-fabric appearance where the pixels are very noticable from a distance. Some owners even had defective screens where there were vertical/horizontal lines displayed on the screen; which had to be RMA.

I'm satisfied with my AUO screen and it looks decent to me. I just turn down the screen brightness by a notch or two and calibrate the colors to my liking.

Oh, yeah I've read that. To me, my screen has nice angles from left/right and below (tilted back), but if I tilt it forward it's impossible to see a thing. No complaints about my screen though =]

Hey guys, 3820tg buyer on the fence. I looked at the Sony Vaio SB (expensive, heard of fan noise problems), the Asus u41sv (never gonna be released in US), 3830tg (no dual fans, crappy build quality, lol), and I'm still in love with the 3820tg. Are you guys still happy with them even after this long after release?

By the way, I'm buying from NCIX.

    Hi

Which Notepal would you guys reccomend? Im considering getting either the Notepal U1 or the Notepal U2. The U1 seems to fit the laptop better however the U2 has 2 fans rather than 1. I will be carrying this laptop to and from uni so fit is important. I will be carrying it in a swissgear laptop bag.

Proud new owner of 3820tg-6829 the best little beast around!! a big big big ...big big upgrade from a Pentium 4 w/ GMA 900. Just one question though... does anyone experience random screen flickering where the screen goes black for less than a second completely randomly?

I just upgraded my 3820tg from the default Atheros to the Intel N-6200. Windows detected it and was installed correctly. However, it does not find any networks. I opened it up to make sure the antennas were connected. It still does not work, however.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Thanks. I posted this in it's own thread, but figure someone here may have experienced this.

It's detected by Windows in the device manager. Nothing wrong when I look at it there. Which Acer tool are you referring to?

I found an old post with a problem very similar to mine, but it was never resolved.

A the most drivers are able to deactivate only the analog HF front end and the card is listed as working in device manager.

Press the "Fn" and the "F3" keys on your Acer keyboard. The tool is Launch Manager.

I mean the screen would go completely black for a second like when the graphics is switching, except randomly and for less than a second (just a black flash).

    Hey guys,

Small problem here. I got tired of my sluggish windows so decided to do a fresh install.

Everything went well except that now the battery life is worse. Before, when idle, consumption was around 8-9W, now it's almost double at 14-15.

    What could have I missed?

Has anyone been able to get SP1 on Windows 7? I just upgraded to the latest ATI hybrid drivers that was posted a couple pages earlier but it doesn't give me the SP1 update. I did uninstall the ATI drivers and even diver cleaned it, but I couldn't uninstall the Intel drivers because it wasn't in Add&Remove Programs.

I had the hybrid drivers installed for a while, but only recently got update KB2533552 which said, "Install this update to enable future updates to install successfully on all editions of Windows 7...". After I installed that update, the SP1 update showed up a few days later.

Something bad with the graphics driver. It looks like AMD is not powered off. Try the latest Hybrid, or switch in BIOS from my signature.

Some minor updates for the drivers. Updated list includes latest hybrid Catalyst 11.5 drivers (beta) and the latest Synaptics and Alps touchpad drivers. Also includes links to a new version of Launch Manager. Find the driver listing from the first post by Bronsky :)

The new Launch Manager (for 3830tg) actually 'solved' this problem.

PS: tested to be working with 3820tg

anyone play portal 2 on their 3820tg?

The game keeps quitting randomly on mine with no error report or anything. Could it be a problem with the game? Or the lappy? Any ideas?

Try uninstalling the game, then reinstall. If it's only specific to Portal 2, it's likely Portal 2's problem.

    Got questions!!!

    1) When you pull the adapter off or plugged in, the laptop will make a beep sound how can I turn that beep sound off? I'm using Win7

    2) When I'm using FireFox and open PDF on one of the FireFox tabs the Synaptics Pointing Device functions such as scrolling on mouse pad will stop working unless I close the PDF tab. any one know how to fix it?

    Thank you!!

    I got question too!!!

    1) How long can your battery last using Intel GMA(With Alien9 hybrid drivers V2)? I get around 3-4 hours with the brightness all the way down and mostly using firefox. (I use 10-15mw according to BatteryBar)

    2) If I use prikolchik's BIOS mod, will I get more juice out of the battery?

The only laptop that I knew that had the annoying beeping sound is the Acer Aspire 5740G; I've never heard of this problem on the 3820TG. Try reinstalling the Realtek drivers.

I would not recommend flashing your laptop with the BIOS mod. Several people have already bricked their laptops and could not restore it back to normal. Also, I've tested the BIOS mod and there isn't really anything special in it besides a few tweaks. There aren't any power saving settings that I know of.

To all those asking about 3820TG competition, I think it finally hit with the Sony F series:

    -13.3-inch ultraportable
    -magnesium-and-alloy casing
-standard AMD Radeon HD 6630 with 1GB of video memory
    -1600 x 900 resolution
    -500GB hard drive
    -fingerprint reader
    -Blu-ray drive

The catch?! "$1,650 just to snag one with an SSD"-Engadget
Almost twice the price, not my cup of tea but a nice looking machine none the less.

    @Damarious25

I don’t think Sony is a real competitor- HD6630 is no faster than HD5650- overall it's even a bit slower. I compared gaming benchmarks on notebookcheck yesterday.
So you have a GPU that is not faster than the previous one and higher screen resolution and a price tag stolen from a Rolls Royce ;)

Completed both Portal and Portal 2 (update 5) recently on my 3820tg using latest Catalyst driver. No crash at all. So, should not be problem with the game. My CPU went crazy high though, above 90°C! GPU is low at 77°C. Anyway to make it more GPU dependent?

    Hi Guys!
Im struggling with installing the latest ati drivers.

I uninstalled the ati i had and installed stock drivers from the Acer site (VGA_AMD_8.752.0.0_W7x86x64).

I then went to bios and changed the settings from switchable to descrete and booted up. Then i installed the latest ati drivers from Amd website.

But it says that the drivers installed are the newest ones and refuses to install the driver itselft.

When i check catalyst control senter the version i have now is 10.7..

    What did i do wrong?

    thx!

*Edit* Seems as if the stock acer 10.1 drivers are no longer available on the site.. what to do now?

    Still a no go.
Can someone take me though this step by step?

The oldest ATI driver available on the Acer website is: VGA_ATI_8.713.3.3000_W7x86W7x64_A.

And the guide tells me to uninstall the ATI drivers and software, and install the stock Acer ATI driver, then BIOS-discrete-boot-install new ATI driver over the stock one-BIOS-switchable. Right?

But seems the problem is that the stock driver is nowhere to be found.

Try this. Remove your drivers. Then, without switching to discrete in the bios, install the latest Acer AMD driver. Reboot and see if that works. It should.
