i have a modified BIOS for to switch between intel and ati, setting IGP ist for intel but which is for the ati PEG?

I currently have my 3820TG hooked up to my television via HDMI.
Is there a way for audio to come out of my headphones automatically whenever I plug something in? I read somewhere that the laptop should automatically do it, but I already re-installed all the drivers to no avail.
At the moment, the only way I can get my headphones working is to set Speakers as the default device. But then it disables the audio from my surround set, and vice versa. -
You only need to read back about 10 posts.
-
You're sure you still have warranty after your backlit keyboard mod?
-
woooowwww the second i stop searching ebay for one, it pops up, could have saved me 400 dollars
oh ok thanks, so at no point does computer actually utilize both cards? just one or the other... -
You can always desolder.
-
I'm fairly sure. Last December, I had to send my unit to the depot. It had a shorted webcam. I had soldered this KB's leads on the underside of the USB board and they were easy to reverse and unnoticeable. I de-soldered the leads and swapped the original bilingual kb in, along with the original HD, before sending it to the depot. No problem with service.

with overclocked gpus what kind of temps are you guys hitting under full load? i know the max temp of the i5 is about 105C but what about the hd6550?
-
take advantage of the acer 3820 dual fan and don't let your gpu goes over 80
-
does the 3820 support TRIM on SSDs?

After a bitter disappointment with the 2011 Macbook Air I decided to return it and keep my 3820TG, but I want to put an SSD in it.
What are the best SSDs money can buy that are compatible with the 3820TG ? I'm looking at 240/256GB capacity.
Any recommendations/tips ? -
overclocked, after 6 hours of stalker cop (yeah... I didn't see time go )
cpu max is 78 average 65
gpu max is 85 average 70
i'm pretty sure 6550m can reach 100, so I can still overclock a bit more.
(buy the way, stalker ran well at 30fps in average at max settings
)

First you will have to ask yourself what kind of performance you want. Some SSDs are faster in transfering big files (useless in a laptop in my opinion, read my last chapter/bash), while others are faster in small random files. Without going in to details on the rest of the various file sizes and characteristics of them I'd say 4k random reads is what you should look for. This is the size of the files and is the closest to the majority of the files your OS consist of. If you want a fast snappy (really don't like that measurement) OS, this is what you want.
Another thing to consider the difference between 25nm NAND and 34nm NAND. The 25nm NAND, even though newer technology, gives you lesser formatted space and a shorter lifespan.
For future proof you should get a SATA3 drive.
Personally I recently grabbed the Crucial C300, which is a great performer for a very reasonable price. They still are out there, perhaps a bit hard to source.
I know some people going to challenge me on this, but I will simply not get into debate on this subject; Stay away from OCZ drives, they are a POS and they focus on BS numbers only, luring the non-educated buyers to buy their crap. Bad quality as well, has the highest return rate of all brands. I know they have shiny casings and fancy names, but unfortunately the drive has to be hidden inside your laptop.
I hope this gave you some help at least.
-
@Lennong,
unfortunately for ocz, I have to agree with you on this one. I heard their SSD is awful. I have an ocz ssd, it died on me. Just around 14months of gentle use. Crucial uses the same controller as intel, Marvell. They are reliable and fast. -
My Crucial has worked perfectly for a year. You can't go wrong with the C300 if you can find a decent price.
With Msata on the horizon and new ultrabooks going to different sized drives, I'm not sure you can really future proof, so don't overpay.
Yes. -
I totally agree.
-
i'm about to purchase this
NCIX.com - Buy Mushkin Chronos 120GB 2.5IN SATA3 Sandforce SF-2281 SSD Solid State Disk Flash Drive - Mushkin Enhanced - MKNSSDCR120GB - in Canada
is it good? will it last 4-5 years? I'm buying it for my future machine as well (that's why I buy a SATA3), it's a lot of money for a student like me, so I have to be 100% sure
-
Hello,
I want to do a clean install and I'm not sure, how to install the VGA drivers.
Is there any way to install the latest Intel drivers without using the hybrid @Alien9-drivers? (the ATI-drivers included are not the newest ones)
And I read something about problems with Intels drivers an SP1.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/7461201-post757.html
What version of the Intel driver is included in Acers official driver-pack? Does these problems occur?
EDIT: which Bluetooth driver do i need?
http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f288/blunaigel/Bluetooth.jpg -
With SSDs the brand almost doesn't matter, its the controller what matters. Sandforce 2xxx has bugs in OCZ and in all other brands.
The most reliable drive right now is Intel 320. In my 3820TG I'm using an OCZ Vertex 2 without any issues for almost a year now. -
whats about the Crucial m4 SSD 128GB? Anyone who can recommend this one?
BTW: i have a displaycover in silver for the 3820TG for sale (i have changed from silver to black) -
This has been discussed several times here but I wonder if there is any update regarding the compatible lcd panels for 3820tg? I'm totally frustrated to my crapy screen and want better viewing angles. However, I'm not willing to spend 100$ if the change is negligible. From these forums I have found these panel models: B133XW01, B133XW03, LP133WH2-TLA4,
LP133WH2-TLL1, LTN133AT18-A01, SEC3030 From these the samsungs are apparently the best?
I wonder if the new sony vaio SA/SB series displays are compatible? I wasn't able to find a service manual. -
I like my AUO but the viewing angles are a clear weakness. The Thinkpad X1 has a decent 350 nits, display and the new LG P330 will have a decent IPS display as well. I would check to see if they will fit. The Sonys are probably not that much better than mine.
-
gonna redo my thermal paste on the cpu and gpu, looks like AC MX-3 gets the lowest temps...you guys know of anything better?
-
The latest driver pack (version 8.771) contains Intel version 8.15.10.2189 which is unaffected by the SP1 bug. As for bluetooth, get the Atheros driver. If it screws up, then switch to the Broadcom driver. I think you might have installed the wrong driver by accident.
-
Get MX-4, same performance but much much easier to apply.
-
I must say the specs looks really good! 90000 IOPS 4k random! Mushkin Chronos SSD Family Joins the SandForce SF-2200 Party | StorageReview.com It doesnt say if it is read or write though. I personally am a faithful Mushkin RAM buyer, simply the best on the market if you ask me. They have been around for quite some time and allways have had a focus on the enthusiast market. Their support is top notch, so you should have no problem if something turns up. Please do report your experiences if you decide to purchase.
Yes, I understand your standpoint. But one sample is not really enough to draw any conclusions if you know what I mean.
I rather look at the return statistics. Anyway, all for their own.
-
As I said, with SSD its the controller that matters. The Mushkin you are looking at is Sandforce 2xxx based and has bugs in a large large number of computers. The Vertex 2 on the other hand finally has a really polished and reliable firmware, which works reliably. So does the Intel 320 and 510 series.
I don't know if you had SSDs before, but with SSDs you return them 99% because of incompatibility with systems. They don't "die" like HDDs die, they produce crazy system freezes and stallings and capacity loss and things like this. -
Yes, I agree on the Intel drives. Had a few of their SSD's and happy with them.
As per you argument about not dying but produce crazy system freezes and stallings and capacity loss and things like that; same crap. If it dies, stalls or loose capacity is totally irrelevant, it's rendered useless and I return it. Simple as that. If it depends on incompatability, same. It's a consumer drive, if it doesn't run properly in the majority of configurations/controllers it's a crappy product...end of story.
The argument that Vertex 2 "finally" has a stable firmware...do you mean we should grab last years technology and be happy with it? Should be buy a second hand Vertex 2? Or do you mean we should "hang in there" for a year..? Are you really happy with that product if you had to wait one year for it to work properly? I really don't understand the point?
Link to statistics of components return rate, specifically SSD's (apparently it's Vertex 2 that stands for the OCZ's numbers, nuff said):
Components returns rates (page 7: SSDs) - BeHardware -
If you like it or not, SATA 3 drives and SATA 3 controllers still have incompatibility problems, because the technology is so new. It will need some more time till it matures to the point that it will be as stable as SATA 2 drives/controllers are today. OCZ believes all the motherboards need new BIOS, Intel needs to update its driver and the factories need to update their firmwares TOGETHER, to solve the incompatibility problems.
Read the really good recent writeup by Anand:
AnandTech - The SandForce Roundup: Corsair, Kingston, Patriot, OCZ, OWC & MemoRight SSDs Compared
Also, I don't believe that going faster than Intel G2 or Vertex 2 can make any difference for productivity. On the other hand, incompatibility things like BSODs and freezes can ruin things badly.
And with the statistics: OCZ is the target for home system-builders and benchmarkers, a lot of them returns drives because they were benchmarking them to slowdowns and/or made a wrong firmware update, etc., what would never happen with for example Kingston drives, because no one buys Kingston drives who would like to build a high performance, home-built computer. -
OCZ believes? Factories update their firmware together? I'm sorry, I can't tag along with that at all...lets leave it there.
Well, my Porsche will not take me to work faster than my Fiat. But on the track I will get my moneys worth, if you can see what I mean. But that you are putting Intel G2 and Vertex2 in the same category is interesting. So you bought the Vertex2 because it was stated oriented towards stability and productivity? I doubt it..
C'mon, you don't believe that yourself do you? The majority of buyers doesn't even touch their drives. Wrong firmware updates? How many do you seriously think OCZ get in for that reason?
This is typical for the brand blindness I see for a few specific brands OCZ, eVGA and some..). The fact that you state "OCZ believes.." is a bit comical and does confirm this in some sense. Anyway, I'll leave the discussion here. I stated in my first post that I will not engage in any deeper discussion regarding this, but ofcourse I couldn't hold my tounge...I never learn.
-
You need to get your Porsche fixed.
-
what links? the thread jumps around alot...can somebody point me in the correct direction
also is switchable graphics a bad thing if im ocing the laptop...im not gonna use it solely for gaming so should i not use the "discrete" option under my bios? -
Refer the link on the first post.
You still can overclock in switchable mode. -
thank you sir
----------------
so if im using switchable graphics do i use ATI's catalyst driver or the hybrid driver?
also what tool do i use to OC the 6550m? -
I sent an email to ask NCIX about their sata3 ssds and they were very helpful.
I guess that's why I love NCIX, super service (I sent the question about 4 hours earlier).
This, and the tech tips on youtube
I'll buy it and let you know how it goes. -
i only ask because i was going to you msi afterburner but decided to give sapphire trixx a try because i heard it was best for amd cards
-
I personally use AMD gpu clock tool, and it works well.
-
Acer's bonehead management moves over the past couple of years are starting to take its toll. http://www.fudzilla.com/notebooks/item/23838-acer-gutted IMO, the 3820TG may be a high watermark in company notebook design for the company for years to come.
-
Do you have both display cover and palm rest in silver? I'm interested! Send me a PM... I think your profile doesn't allow me to send a private message..
-
I'm not too good in german, but I think "lagernd" means in stock
Acer Aspire TimelineX 3820TG-5464G75nks - Notebooks - computeruniverse.net -
@Zapperpower:
You're right. It means in stock. -
Funny guys
. You can google for "vertex 3 BSOD" or "SF-2281 BSOD" to understand that the issue still persists even with latest firmwares.
Of course only small percent of systems are affected. But if affected - there is no cure for now. So you'd better be sure you can return your SSD. Just in case. -
@raulilha: i can't send you a pm...there is no PM button?
there aren't many germans in this forum right? i'm german, so please forgive my bad english
-
ok so i did something wrong because whenever i switch to "switchable graphics" in bios i get a black screen when i start up...like the display is switched off....i booted up in safe mode to see if either the intel or amd devices are disabled but they are both on
---------------------------
so im assuming its because i used the intel driver from the intel site not the acer version. I did this because when i download the intel driver package from acer it seems to be the wrong driver, there is no display driver to install in the package just a turbo boost driver -
That's true! But it's refurbished... warranty is already activated (01. March 2011), but they'll give you at least one year... I guess there are 18 month left.
Btw: here's the english description
http://www.computeruniverse.net/info.asp?id=90391044&used=all&idused=35607&language=english
-
Edit reason: contact information...
-
nvm i got it, it was the intel driver
------------------------
ok last thing i swear lol...so the way i installed my graphics switching was that i installed the intel graphics card then the acer ati driver, then switched the bios to discrete mode and installed the amd catalyst driver then switched back to switchable graphics...the problem im having is if i shutdown the computer with the gpu in power saver mode (intel chipset active) it freezes on shutdown and i get a BSOD. if i switch to the ati chip then shutdown its fine...why is this happening?
the dump says the problem is the usbhub.sys but i think thats just a generic explaination.
also, it seems that i get better fps with my intel card than my ati card....gpu-z says that the ati cards core is running at 100 mhz -
Computeruniverse is a very good retailer. I bought my first unit there, when they were still shipping to the US. They stopped because of Canadian customs' ban on li-polimer battery shipping. It's a returned unit. BTW, there's an english button on their website.

trying to OC my i5 480m with setfsb...what clockgen do i use?
when i select ICS9LPRS365BGLF i get a wierd reading (below)

ow... right
I just wanted to share what I found about our 3820TG
