If you were using 4GB of RAM before the upgrade, it's because more RAM will decrease your overclocking potential.

Has to do with the electronic design inside the memory controller.

And no, you can't change it.

Driver listing updated. Found another source for the hybrid drivers that provides the latest Catalyst and Intel drivers. Works fine on my Timeline without problems. The listing is linked on the first page :)

Note that the majority of failures for SSDs are still firmware related. The Intel 320 that becomes an 8MB flash drive, etc. And it's affected most all SSDs at one time or another. It's just a much less mature product segment than spinning disks. We've had spinning magnetic media in one form or another for about 50 or so years, so most issues were worked out long ago. There was an interesting article linked to in the postgresql general mailing list about SSDs in production environments, I'll try to look it up. Basically SSDs=immature and prone to firmware failures. Spinning drives=mature and prone to mechanical failure.

Have you used a driver cleaner before installing new drivers. You may have to wipe all the drivers and install new ones. Not sure if thats what you did when you `did all the updates`.

Can't get any sound while using HDMI to a TV.

HDMI doesn't show up in devices. Why? Have tried installing the latest Realtek Driver.

Hi and thanks for the comment. Ihad actually done a clean install of the Windows on a freshly formatted C drive, so I'm afraid that's not the source of the trouble . Seems like no one on this forum is experiencing any problems with the ATI and the BBC HD stream. The funny thing is that one of the reasons I had picked up the TG version of the Acer was mainly to be able to 'enjoy' the BBC HD TV on my TV !

Where is your Acer driver disc or folder backup of the drivers? The Realtek website has "ATI HDMI Audio Device" listed as one of the drivers required for HDMI audio.

It's possible (in theory) although that would have to be a used one.
I bought Core i5 560M for roughly $45 a month or two ago and it works like a charm. The seller had something like 20 units all used ones yet all working fine.

They are not ES or QS right? i forgot where to look in cpuz if it is qs or es veresion

you bought one from the same place?

No one know if i7 processor is compatible with this laptop, the size and the heatsink don't match correctly. No integrate gpu, which mean you are forced to use ATI all the time.

Someone here could post his/her experience of overclocking the the Intel M460? (e.g max stable values)

And got anyone overclocked already "Nanya NT2GC64B8HC0NS-CG" RAM? (DDR3-1333)

I saw also this tutorial http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...rks-tweaks-mods-upgrades-116.html#post6432896 will it set the "maximum gpu/mem clock to xxx" or will it set the clock permanently to the new values till the system gets rebooted? I mean normally the GPU is changing the current clock to save power / decrease the heat.

ok so i read on the old thread that overclocking the cpu produces "wierd" or negative effects for gaming...can somebody explain this? iv searched google and only come up with gaming improvements with ocing....

the reason i ask is because i just started playing crysis 2 and during the cutscenes the audio will cut out or stutter which i believe is due to a problem with syncing to the video...maybe because of my OCd cpu or gpu?

Set the CPU back on default values.

On a motherboard are a lot of "out-of-sync detection" and one ore more of them seems to get active force a resend of the data. -> Lower data throughput.

Type it in a command line window:
    bcdedit /set useplatformclock true

Sorry, I don't understand what you are saying and AFAIK it makes no sense. The stuttering bug is because of the Windows 7 QueryPerformanceTimer bug, this can be fixed with the bcdedit line above. Also, CPU does not remember overclocking, so its a strange thing to write "set the cpu back", as a simple restart does the trick.

    Hi all!

Just got hold of some dirt cheap PC3-10600 (1333MHz) 2x4GB ram.
The 3820TG does however default to 1066Mhz.

Any way to get the ram to run at 1333Mhz?

If you want maximum overclocking performance, get 4GB and nothing more.

No. Intel's arbitrary restriction only allows i5 processors to run RAM at 1066MHz max. You cannot make it run at 1333MHz without an i7 processor. On the other hand, you do get lower latency while running 1333MHz ram at 1066MHz (CL9 vs CL7), so there might be a slight but negligible performance boost.

important is, that you don't install acers epower managment! the 11.6 modded hybrid drivers works, but don't forget to change the registry, because msn prevent switching.

i installed the 11.8 hybrid and it works perfect...even fixed my bsod issue....what i did was, uninstall both of your drivers then go to add remove progs and remove ALL catalyst software, reboot then install the driver inforcer followed by the hybrid driver, reboot.

sometimes I also have the issue of a black screen when using the ati card, i think it has something to do with shutting down while the intel card is active then rebooting with the power cord plugged in (ati card), the computer saves the power saving gpu then doesnt know what to do when it should start with ati, idk.

The Catalyst 11.8 that I found works perfectly, however it's important to note that the issues that plague the modded driver is also found within the official Acer driver, especially the issues where MSN Messenger prevents you from switching the GPU. As for the other issues where there is only a black screen after switching, it is possible that Windows might have changed the output to your HDMI or VGA output, which would display nothing on the screen. To check if this is a problem, press Windows + P and see if the display output will change. This usually occurs if you installed the 11.8 drivers over a previous version of Catalyst, and it can be remedied by doing a full uninstall of both the Intel and AMD drivers, then doing a clean install of the hybrid drivers.

actually it is doing this to me too...seems that if you switch to intel then try to switch back you get a black screen....the display is up, i can bearly see everything but it seems that the backlight is completely off...the way i installed my drivers was a clean install and im having this issue still...

edit: just did another clean install of the 11.8 software and still having blackouts when switching from intel back to ati.
like i said the screen is there, just 0% backlight
