If Acer use the default pcie it should work, but the FN+F3 may not work.

    oooooOOOOOoooo. Good idea :)

Also, I'm late but just read a bit about the new Samsung Series 7 Chronos coming out:
Samsung unveils Series 7 laptops, we go hands-on -- Engadget

    -backlit keys

    -two USB 3.0 ports

-Core i7-2675QM CPU clocked at 2.2GHz, up to 8GB of RAM

    -Radeon HD 6750M

    -$1,300 for all the fixins'

    -a 14-inch 300-nit, 1600 x 900 matte display panel into a 13-inch chassis

Sounds almost to good to be true :)
    I smell an upgrade lol.

I recall something about screens with resolutions over 1336x768 not working with the 3820tg. Plus, With a 14" screen, there's the issue of the bezel... :(

It will work so long as the card is a half-height mini PCI-E card. I have an Atheros AR9002WB-1NG and an Intel Centrino 6230, and both have integrated wifi+bluetooth on one package with the dimensions being the same as chips with only wifi and no bluetooth.

New switchable graphics drivers from here. Only the Intel driver has been updated to v8.15.10.2509. Clean install is highly recommended. Haven't tested it yet, can someone take it for a spin and see if the old problems are still here?

The Core i7-720QM doesn't have integrated graphics... so it kind defeats the purpose of a 5-6 hour laptop because it won't support switchable graphics.

We have discussed it. No one has done it yet AFAIK. It will fit the socket and the heat sink can be modded to cover the entire CPU. Aylafan is right though and it does kinda defeat the whole purpose of owing a 3820TG.

Don't hold your breath. The S3 will be the cheapest of the Ultrabooks (probably around $800 for the base model). It will have a lot more plastic than the Ideapad U300 and the Asus UX31. I assume that Acer will plop in a normal 220 nits, average contrast, 720p display. If it is any better, it is the same size as the 3820TG and the same resolution, so it would probably be swappable.

With the color balanced, my AUO display is fine. The only real issue are the limited viewing angles but I barely notice them.

I like the series 7 but the 14"er is a non-starter. The 15.6" is too big for my needs. LG P330 looks the most promissing. Prices on the Sony SA are starting to moderate too. For me, the 3820TG is fine until Ivy Bridge Comes along.

Hey there guys I have a very annoying problem that somebody might be facing as well, not really sure on this one. Didn't have this problem with any single computer in my life. The Global Keys work very strange.

When I press the FN+Play key my winamp launches which is quite normal, but when I want to pause music for example during the game, the game minimizes and winamp window comes up. This doesn't just happen with winamp, this happens with every single Player that I make the Default player.

Then another thing, when I skip a track in Winamp using the FN+Next key, a couple of tracks get skipped instead of just one (when I'm not on shuffle) which is very annoying as well.

Just seems to be something perhaps with the drivers, maybe the launch manager ???

Hey all! I need help again :p
I've removed "\" key and I don't know how to put it in back rightly :(. I inserted it back but something's wrong, key isn't working fine. There were two "sticks" on the back of the key and they probably don't fit together now. Maybe I had badly put it together? Could anybody show me how to remove key and set it back without damage? :p It realy makes me upset ;/

I don't have that issue with Windows Media Player, maybe Launch Manager is not compatibile with other plaers ;p Try to install fresh Launch Manager if you haven't done it already. LM v5.0.6

This^... The 3820TG screen is pretty bad outta the box but with tweaking it can look great! Although everyone's eyes and everyone's monitor are different. What's amazing for one might look like day old dog "chili" to others.

I'll post a pic of mine soon anyways.

Noooooooooooooooooo... You've crushed my dreams... Not really though, still obviously very happy with my stock 3820TG

I'm sorry for asking lot of questions but I have new annoying problem...

Why after wake up form sleep everytime my battery plan changed from battery saver to balanced? But worst is that everytime graphics is changed from intel to ati (notebook is still on battery). I have stock acer drivers and powerplay is also turned on. The P button led is on.

Where did you find this one? It's not even on station drivers, but it appears to be legit as it is digitally signed by WHQL... I mean otherwise it wouldn't install on x64, right?

Anybody with an SSD, is the price worth the performance increase?

    Thinking of getting either the:

    Corsair 120GB Force Series 3
    Crucial 128GB m4

What kind of external HDD are you guys using, given the lack of eSATA or USB3?

I bought a used Intel 120GB from another forum and it was by far the BEST investment in terms of upgrades for the 3820TG. I don't store much on the laptop as I have a dedicated server here that stores everything. So the only room I use on the SSD is for steam games. It works out well.

SSDs are amazing. I've even thrown small 60GB SSDs in laptops belonging to family and they all think I'm some magic wizard for speeding up their 5 year old machines.

SSD = VERY VERY worth it. I'd only buy Crucial or Intel though.

Edit: they speed up boot times so much I shut down whenever i'm walking away from the laptop. Even if i'm just going to make a quick sandwich i'll shut'er down. With such a fast boot time, why not...

Updated the Launch Manager, still no luck with the fix, I have tried to open the Launch Manager Config, but nothing opens up when I double click the LMConfig nothing happens. I thought I might perhaps find a way to to disable the FN+Play button to open the default media player.

I don't have a SSD in my laptop, but I have one in my desktop, a Corsair Force F120. It makes a night and day difference. This is on a system with an i7 860 @ 4ghz. Programs like Photoshop, Word, Nero, load up instantly. It makes a computer feel more responsive. I also notice, over time, on regular harddrives, programs get all "clogged" up. When running multiple programs, the search needle on the harddrive probably moves around too much trying to find data. And things sometimes crash. With a SSD, 6 months later is still as fast as day 1, provided you have updated drivers and TRIM working properly. I'd advocate anyone that can afford it to get one.

Damn Windows ))) No I actually don't, when ever I am in browser or anything else and the WMP is open, I can pause and the next buttons don't actually skip tracks like winamp does.

Windows Media Player does get launched when ever it is closed and I press the play button though.

I still don't think that Everybody here uses Windows Media Player....At least I hope that they don't :p

Somebody ought to use Winamp, or Aimp, or even iTunes.

I had the I3-350 in this unit when I first got it. The I3 is a great OC'er. It has an amazing amount of head-room. I don't remember how high I had it clocked but I remember it was in the 35% range.

That videos not bad but I have mine down to about 18 seconds from when I hit the power button.

I agree with the SSD sentiments. Very worth it. Boots up like a champ on steroids. Timed myself at 18ish seconds from power button to login screen. Also makes the palm rests very very cool to the touch.

As for external drives, I got a WD Passport 500GB for free after buying a computer chair at Staples months ago. Very small and convenient, no external power cord needed.

35% wow, It will have nice efficiency results i guess :D But what with the heat level? Won't be too high to care about? How much the temperature would increase?

Holy s#$t, so it is a good investment i see :D Too expensive for me now :( I wish I could have backlit KB, it looks amazing :p

I'd like to buy a matte on-screen foil (I don't like seeing my face on the screen :p). It's worth to buy it? I don't mind it so much, just a little detail.

I have an i5 3820TG but I did own an i3 3820TG for about 5 or 6 months first. In my opinion if your just looking to overclock for gaming it's not worth it. The stock i3 and stock i5 were actually pretty close and there's very little difference when gaming. I like to game around 60fps so I followed tweak guides to get max settings in games while still getting 60fps and I got to say the i3 is a fast little machine. Honestly you shouldn't feel like your "missing out" a bit by having an i3 instead of an i5 or i7.

The best upgrade for the 3820TG is an SSD. I'll never have a spinning drive in a laptop ever again... NEVER :)

I also want a backlit keyboard but couldn;t find any the last few times I looked :-(

As for a matte screen protector, personally I wouldn't use one. To me that's just one more thing between me and the pixels I'm looking at. Unless you dish out $$$ for a top quality matte screen protector, any cheap ones you get will slightly smudge the screen. Maybe not even enough to notice unless your an inch from the screen and looking for it, but still...

Could you tell me which guides should I follow to get best gaming performance? :) It's quite important for me ^^. OC is too dangerous with temperatures, especially in demanding games like Crysis 2 or The Witcher 2, even on low settings.

What would you say about non matte foil, just for screen protection while cleaning and to make it easier to do it :)

As far as I know the difference between the CPUs is very little, and it depends more on your video card. I see that you have 5650, which is not too different from 6550 which I have. I have overclocked the video card to run at 720/1050 which seems to be doing quite alright as long as I am running the Custom Fan Profile set to Gaming.

Use the next reference for overclocking the card. http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/561840-3820tg-owners-lounge-part-two-94.html#post7547172

Make sure you use the Custom Fan Profile. http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...x-3820tg-mods-tweaks-only-16.html#post7467467

I am running Witcher 2 at about 35 fps at Medium/Low, textures at high.

Got a question about the custom fan gaming profile. Is it permanent? as in if reformat windows, the fan profile still remains?
Also, a question for folks that have changed their wifi card for an Intel 6200. Does it give you any better range? Thanks for the feedback.

Normally, I'd do the same, but I use this laptop at work where there is no wifi. Fortunately there is a Mcdonalds down the street with free access. :) Currently I am using this to pick up the signal Amazon.com: Alfa 1000mW 1W 802.11b/g USB Wireless WiFi Network Adapter With Original Alfa Screw-On Swivel 9dBi Rubber Antenna: Electronics

It's amazing. You can pick up every broadcasting signal in a 3-4 block radius. I think the army used these things over in Iraq. Only thing is it looks kind of silly (not too discrete). So if the Intel 6200 offered better range, I'd stick it in my laptop. Probably just pick one off ebay and try it. They're pretty cheap.

Speed range is usually determined by the number of streams (1x1, 2x1, 1x2 etc), where 3x3 offers the best transmit and receiving range, as well as speeds as each stream can receive up to 150mbps up to a maximum speed of 450mbps. Where 1x2 and 2x1 are concerned, 1x2 means 1Tx2R, ie. 1 transmit stream and 2 receiving streams, so rangewise it would not be very good, but when receiving data/packets it might give a better performance. For example, I had an AR9002WB-1NG 1x1 card that lagged horribly when playing C&C with my friends on an ad-hoc network, but after I upgraded it to a Intel Centrino 6230 2x2 card, performance was greatly improved with about 15ms ping most of the time, not to mention better range. So, when looking for better speeds usually you will be looking at better range as well because the way wifi cards work is such that both are tied together with the number of streams.

Does any one how to undo the changes made by the DSE?

I have uninstalled the modded hybrid drivers and went with the drivers direct from AMD as I got the same 'no backlight' issue with the modded hybrid drivers.

    Hi everyone !
I read this post http://forum.notebookreview.com/7214307-post9973.html and want to do that mod. But I'd like to install and use the internal SIM holder on the mainboard, it's comfortable. So I have some questions:
What kind of SIM holder is compatible with 3820 mainboard ? I read somewhere that some Acer notebook/netbook have own pin configure one, non standard (but looks like the same), is it true ? I found that one Sim Card Slot Adapter, 3G 3.5G 4G laptop Netbook HSDPA | eBay , is it right ? Can I use it or need another one ?
What else do I need to install on mainboard so the SIM holder works ?

The Custom Fan Profile just modifies your fan speed until you restart the PC, so lets say you double click the Gaming profile, it will stay in Gaming mode until you restart the PC, or set it to something else.
