Well, I guess I'm going to have to use the manual switch, which works great. Also, booting Windows with Intel HD-graphics works through 3820tray.
What do you mean "full version of Tray"? I have the zip from this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/562583-3820tray-hardware-control-powerprofiles-cpumonitor.html
-
CCC should automatically remember what graphics card your computer had before it shutdown, so if your computer was set to Intel HD Graphics when it shutdown, it should boot with Intel HD Graphics without any need for external programs.
-
Does anyone know if the 3820TG is MXM 3.0 Type A compatible? The build I bought has the 5470 and I'd really like to upgrade to the 5650 if possible.
-
Graphic card is soldered

In related products, I noticed that for only 10 bux more you can have the same thing with a set of connectors for every notebook brand/model:
Amazon.com: AcBel Ultra Smallest & Slimmest Real Universal NoteBook AC Power Adapter (90W) Laptop Charger (Worldwide Safety Certificate with 3 years Warranty) + Free All-in-one Universal Plug Adapter 8A Max for US UK EU AU Worldwide over 150 Countrie
The thing is, I couldn't find this particular AcBel product in the EU and for some reason, Amazon.com doesn't ship this outside the lower 48... (which is kind of ironic seeing as 3820tg isn't even available in the USofA
)
Anyway, I did some more googling and I found this:
http://www.lepatek.eu/fileadmin/produkte/notebook-adapter/ad9009/AD9009_Datasheet_EN.pdf
Is it just me or the specs (incl. weight and dimensions) are identical to the AcBel one?
According to the label on my original Acer charger (AC Input & DC Output), it should work. -

Thanks. Guess I'll need to put in some extra work to upgrade the GPU. Soldering iron is getting lonely anyway and I have some time to kill to attempt a desolder.
-
That will not work very well. There's no guarantees that you can even find a 5650 or 6550 core, and then you might run into vBios problems. It's near impossible to upgrade the GPU, which is why Acer simply replaces the motherboard
-
Hi boys,
did anyone upgrade the new synaptics touchpad drivers? i have never seen such a horrible touchpad haptic like with that driver. the touchpad doesn't recognise correctly my fingers. often i must touch the pad two or three times until a reaction arrives. the second problem is the "new" double finger tap. if you touch the pad accidentally with two fingers you will jump backward (in firefox to the previous page). it is very annoying...
had someone maked the same experience or it is only a problem @ my 3820tg? -
It's the same thing...and of course here it costs ~55€ excl.shipment
...I hate living on the wrong side of the atlantic...
For 39€ I may give it a try, but for 55€ you get a Coolermaster USNA95 which I personally put a bit more trust in...
Slim Power Brick Comparison
Its a german review, but you get it, looking at the charts (especially temperature), or just trans-google it
-
Is it the one from Acer or the one in the list I compiled? The one I recently updated works perfectly fine for me, although there's an even newer one which is here.
-
mhh, strange...
after a restart it works fine. yeah, the driver was from your list. ok, it should be working perfectly now
. so far, thanks for the newest driver
-
I use the USNA95. Picked it up for 40 bucks at a local store (in Canada though).
Very slim, and though it does get warm when i'm gaming, not dangerously so.
Good buy if you can find it at the right price in your country. -
my sist has an acer 3820tg i7 620.
this morning laptop was running just fine.
went out and back at night, now i couldn't turn on the laptop at all.
i plugged the ac adaptor and it doesnt show any light or what soever..
i did use on battery still can't power up
any suggestion?
edit: my sist told me the ac adaptor plug shouldn't be this loose.. usually it feels pretty tight when you plugged em in hmm -
By now, I've almost squared with the fact that my charger is bigger/heavier than my laptop but my sister's charger has died so I'm gonna give her mine and buy the AD9009 anyway. It's still considerably smaller than the smallest of the four reviewed ones. Thanks for the link though.
-
ahhh
well i found a 5650 core for cheap, so i'm gonna give it a try when i'm ready to upgrade my laptop....so if anything goes wrong it won't be too bad
-
Would love to see if this can be done. Take lots of pictures.
-
anyone play RAGE? how does it run?
-
if you have a professional soldering station then this is not too difficult. However, if you are doing this with a regular soldering tool then you are wasting your time. Don't do it. I have worked on those faulty hp graphic chips so I know.
-
...as i mentioned before...for the right price...
i may have found another clone:
Xilence SPS-XP-LP90.B @35 on Amazon.de
One customer already confirmed its compatible with the 3820TG.
it would be kind if you will share your experience with this power unit.
stability under max powerconsumption (maybe even oc'ed) and temps on max. performance and idle are the most interesting things (I am sissying around on this, hence my neighbour nearly put "the roof on fire" with his faulty cheap notebook charger - literally burned a whole apartment to ashes) -
Hi folks,
I somehow deactivated the Atheros GigaLAN adapter under Win7 64. Now I cannot find the way to reactivate it again. It is not shown in the device manager, although Aida64 displays it as deactivated. http://forum.notebookreview.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
Any ideas?
Happy Christmas time,
tome -
Hm doesn't sound to good to me.
Anyhow, some ideas:
- Show Hidden Devices(german)
- Searching for new Hardware in Device Manager
- Check "Netzwerkumgebung/Adaptereinstellung
- Check Bios (I don't even know if it can be disabled from there just take a look)
Merry X-Mas -
Try the above, and also try these drivers and see if it works.
-
@flunserl & too456:
Thanks for your replies. Unforunately nothing of the above worked on my 3820TG. The Atheros GigaLAN adapter remains invisible except for Aida64. I installed the latest driver as recommended but it did not appear after a reboot. Maybe it is time to exchange it for a new one. :-(

try an usb-bootable os with networking features (win-boot/linux/ubcd) and see if it works there, if not, you may want to think about RMA -
for all the would be hackers out there thinking they can simply desolder and replace the graphics chip i'd like to clear up, once and for all that you need machinery similar to something like this to solder BGA chips. It's just not a realistic thing to try and do. The only example i've ever seen of something atempting a mod of this complexity was a guy on a VAIO forum who replaced the CPU on his VAIO UX series using a similar rework station he had access to. like everyone has said so far, it's not worth the trouble...
-
Got the Crucial M4 128 GB for Christmas.
As I didn't bother to clone the HDD and whatever, I did a clean install, but not the one that comes with the computer.
I've installed AMD driver etc., but my have missed something.
What's essential after clean install? -
The essentials are everything in the driver list I made. It is linked on the first page.
-
I should've said that the price comparison you hinted earlier wasn't fair. You gotta keep in mind that all the prices on US websites exclude VAT while in the EU it's included. (This is because in the US you pay VAT according to the state of destination whereas in the EU you pay VAT according to the state of origin.) Furthermore, the retail price also doesn't include all sorts of other recycling fees and whatnot while in the EU it does. And last but not least, /$ ratio is jumping up and down all year long making any kind of comparison meaningless.
Anyhow, I bought the Lepatek AD9009 (I paid 51 incl. shipping) and I'm very happy with it. I've let OCCT PSU test run for two hours and it didn't get nearly as hot as my original charger did. I still can't believe how tiny this thing is! Why the heck does Acer sell us those bricks, I don't know...

Hi,
it me again
. After xmas i want to change the RAM and the SSD.
first i'd found the ocz vertex 2 but heard that there a lot of bugs with the sandforce controller. because of that i choose the cruzial m4 128gb with the stable marvell controller. you agree with my decision? i want the best price-performance ratio (poor student
).
in addition i want to upgrade from 4GB RAM to 8GB. but i am not sure if the the 3820tg only supports 1066mhz memory clock or maybe 1333 and 1600.
for the 1066 modules i would choose the patriot 8gb kit (PSD38G1066SK)
for the 1333 modules the g.skill 8gb kit (F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ)
and for the 1600 modules the Corsair Vengeance 8gb kit (CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9)
good choices?
i tried to search in this thread for compatible clock speeds but i didn't find something
. Can you support me?
-
For memory clock speed, it depends. i5 processors support up to 1066MHz, i7 supports up to 1333MHz. If you put a 1333MHz module into an i5 system, it will run at 1066MHz but with reduced latencies.
-
Bad sound from CPU - YouTube
CPU-noise. What is it? -
Thank you @too456! That was the point that i want to know it
.
Then i would choose the Patriot or Mushkin ones
Patriot SO-DIMM Kit 8GB PC3-8500S CL7 (DDR3-1066) (PSD38G1066SK) | Geizhals.at Deutschland
Mushkin Enhanced Essentials SO-DIMM Kit 8GB PC3-8500S CL7-7-7-20 (DDR3-1066) (996644) | Geizhals.at Deutschland
Some suggestions to the crucial m4 ssd? -
If I remember correctly, note that only quad core i7 processors support 1333Mhz modules.
-
Yes, you remembered correctly and I didn't
But on the bright side, you get lower latencies while using 1333MHz modules on these processors. However, whether you can feel the difference is another matter entirely.
-
I've recently bought Corsair CM3X8GSDKIT1066 for €30. They're great + lifetime warranty = win
-
I read that it is the best price/preformance/no bug ssd choice. I will be changing my hdd on Crucial M4 in a week or two.
Also is there a way to use hidden partition on my hdd to install win 7 on new ssd connected to USB? -
I decided today that I love my aspire 3820tg more than I did before. Wintertime brings dripdrips from the skylight in my office. Hasn't been an issue all summer and fall so I'd kinda forgotten. I had my laptop on and open right under where it drips, then I went out for the day. When I came back home, it was covered in water. Tipping it on its side It felt like I was pouring a glass of water out of the usb ports lol. Anyway, 2 days later after extensive fanning I turned this puppy on and ZOMG! Everything works peach and dandy like it wasn't ever sitting in a pool of water.
Anyway, I'm very happy about that. Go 3829TG you're the bomb!!
-godeshus -
You're really lucky. I've drowned one and it's easy.
-
Just a quick question, what program do you use for checking the temperatures?
My 3820 just gave me 3 BSOD while playing Skyrim and I suspect high temperatures may be the cause.
I've upgraded from the 11.6 to the 11.12 hybrid drivers recently to try and fix the problem but it didn't. I installed the 11.6 straight from the latest drive format, can that be an issue?
thank you for your time -
Use Battery Care, it shows temperatures from the CPU and HDD - in additional to the battery time remaining when discharged.
-
Use HWMonitor, it shows the temperatures for the CPU, motherboard, HDD and GPU. It can log the temperatures as well so when your computer BSODs you can check the temperatures prior to the BSOD when you restart the computer.
-
thank you for the suggestions.
It didn't BSOD so far but I am getting 100ºC on the CPU and 105ºC on the GPU. That is quite bad, right? What can I do to lower these, as undervolt seems to be impossible in the i5.
Also in the HWmonitor what are the first 4 temps (TZS0, TZS1, PCH and GMCH) related to? -
Your temperatures are really bad. You will probably need to repaste and clean the fans of your computer.
I'm not too sure what TZS0 and TZS1 are since the names seem to vary from computer to computer. However, PCH stands for the Platform Controller Hub and GMCH stands for the Graphics and Memory Controller Hub and they relate to the respective temperatures of the hubs in question. -
thank you. I will try the cleaning right away and the repasting as soon as the stores reopen. Do you have any good guides for the repasting since it seems a bit of a complicated procedure
Thank you for the replies -
You can find the service manual here.

Hey guys I just bought 2x4gb Gskill ram model :F3-10666CL9S DDR3-1333 CL 9-9-9-24
Can you guys help me OC my I5-480m over 151Mhz bus speed? I heard about flashing the ram spd, but I haven't found a good tutorial about how to do it... I was able to achieve 154 with my old 4gb setup. I'm currently using setpll. I also would like to know how to optimise the latency of the ram sticks... -
Microsoft Update provided me with an optional Acer display driver (60kB, 2011-11-28) this morning. Interesting...
-
Anyone had any problems with the USB ports? The two on the left hand side om the computer is not working, even after clean install. What to do?
EDIT: Flashed to 1.19 BIOS, which would take care of the issue, but nada happened. -
A plausible reason would be that you did not connect the cable from the USB board to the motherboard properly when you reassembled it.
