I bought Tracer TechPorter 15 for just $40 from London Drugs (Canada). It fits perfectly for my 15.4" Acer notebook. If you are lookng for a low cost basic bag this is the one to go for.

Why do the companies insist on puting all thos ugly stickers on the notebook, can't they put them on the back or give u a certificate varifying that it's a centrino, or whatever else. They make the notebooks look ugly. Can we take them off, or is it a good idea to just leave it on?

All the stickers are removable. It's just a marketing/advertising technique. In order to use the unit, you must see the stickers. Most usually come off without any problems, but if it does leave a bit of residue, you can use Googone to remove the rest of the glue. Googone shouldn't have any bad effects on the notebook, I used it a lot on older notebooks without any problems. Just make sure you wipe down the area with a damp cloth after your done.

I just got my 4501, and it's so beautiful I could cry. I think i'll leave the stickers on, they don't seem to bother me.
I'm in love with this machine, it's awsome!

BTW guys, I am looking forward in buying the TravelMate 4501.
Currently I own a sager 5670; basically gonna trade in for the 4501.
I got a question reg the audio controls, where do I find it in the TravelMate 4501; because in my sager 5670 there is a audio dj panel and where as in the case of 4501 where is it?

    Would appreciate the reply!

    THANX

The audio controls are on the keyboard, the travelmate uses hotkeys. it's really neat, i like it as well i think there is a way to control the volume in windows. I don't know as yet cause i'm still getting use to my machine, i just got it yesterday.

To control the volume, it's basically hitting Fn + arrow key (up or down) to increase or decrease the volume. You can also set the volume in Windows using the Mixer, but you may also have some Acer s/w to do the same.

I also tried playing Unreal 2 and Need for speed underground, and boy the graphic card rulEZ. All played with 1280 by 1024 and every detail high gave me the best performance.

Finally, I traded my Sager for a Acer and man should I say it beats every laptop that I have seen.
The keyboard is very sturdy just like IBM keyboard and unlike my Sager keyboard. The WXGA rocks and it's awesome. Also, the controls and everything works very fine.

Overall, I am very happy and I would like to thank all of you cause at first I was about to buy a Toshiba but then heard all the review of the TravelMate 4501 and I am very pleased.
    Thanx 2 ALL[ :)]

is there any real differences between this and the 1681 besies the HD size and the baterry life. They seem to look identical and all the other specs look the same.
I'm really quite torn between the 2 of them?

The all in one and modular structure diff dont matter to me at all.

What advantages, aside from baterry life does the TM have over teh 1681wlmi

TravelMate 4501 has stereo sound, whereas the Aspire 1681 has mono sound. The 4501 has Windows XP Pro, the 1681 has Windows XP Home. The 4501 has a 3 in 1 card reader, the 1681 does not. The 4501 has demensions that are just a tad smaller (ie. 0.1 inches).

I was experiencing the same predicament, but went with the TravelMate 4501 instead. I could not risk battery life or mono sound. I figured a hard drive upgrade would be much more cheaper than a battery one. In this case, there are only rumors of an 8 cell battery for the 1681.

    hey all
i can vouch for vice city, nfs-underground and euro-2004 working like a charm at full settings.
I am amazed at the processing power (with four IM applications + bitcomet + zonealarm running 24/7)
And it goes 3 days in a row plugged in and no freezing/memory burnout (happened on my old desktop)
one crappy thing is the headphone jack sticking in your way if you want to permanently hook it up to a speaker.(it juts out in front- good and bad-- if you want to keep on your lap with external speakers/headset--bad- but if you want to keep on a table/setup- good)
also, the sound is amazing through headset, its just the speakers that are real crummy.
I have not tested the SD card, Svideo and the firewire. All else has been tested!
Do ask me if you want to know more!
i heartily recommend this to all.

Acer 4501== laptop that kicks the llamas ass.
    I LOVE THIS LAPTOP!! :) :)

The Aspire 1680 series does have a 3-1 media card reader (since it's identical to the Travelmate 4500 series). Here's the image that lists the profile image of the 1680. This shows the media reader on the upper left side.

You can simply buy a mini "L" jack at Radio Shack for about a buck. I know your audio cord will still be in front, but it won't be sticking straight out.
