Hey,
now I can say that installing the wlan-driver from my last post (09.09.) solved my problem, had no disconnect-problem since then. I'd like to hear your experiences with it. thanks
@usz - had No1 and No4 from your list, too. Both are solved now. No4 really got me angry because thats just ripp-off in my opinion ! But No7 is not a 8943g related problem. And despite these two problems I'm absolutely happy with the 8943g - I'm convinced that there are problems with all new notebooks independent of the manufacturer.
best regards

I've had my 8943G for a day and a half now and have had no disconnect issues as of yet.
-
i have installed the latest wireless boardroom driver from the acer support site but unfortunately no improvement to the wireless disconnection issue, i also tried the driver from Snnopy59bmg but not luck.
-
I, too, have this problem. I have the 8943G 728G1 with a i7-720QM processor, 8gb RAM, 1TB HD.
I have tried the Broadcom driver on the Acer site and it stops installing two thirds of the way through with a message that says:'Setup error: Error "KIRIN_REL_5_828' has occurred and setup cannot continue." I'm guessing that it may be the wrong driver?
I then installed the driver suggested by snoopy50bmg, which hasn't cured the problem.
There two other drivers listed: Atheros and Intel. Which should I install?
ETA: I have reinstalled the driver my acer came with - which is the Broadcom 5.60.350.6 - and under device manager the error message is: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31).
Sorry about all this editing, but I got the Broadcom 5.60.350.6 driver installed (by removing and deleting the previous driver), but the disconnect problem remains.
Any thoughts? -
I thought - I can't be bothered with all this hassle. I've bought a USB wireless adapter. Problem solved.
-
I'm using a D-link as modem and netgear router for the wireless.
I just got the laptop yesterday noon time and not one disco. -
-
I need update BIOS on Acer Aspire 8943G ,unfurtunetly Acer technecian answer to different questions are==>( perform a system recovery)!!!!!!!!!and ehere is nothing in acer (suport site)!!!I will appreciate any help. please step by step. by the way acer driver update for wireless disconnect , improved wireless disconnection issue, with new driver I can stay connected longer,BUT still disconnect!!!!
-
I was doing fine since I got the laptop Monday with no disco's until this morning. Not only did I get a disco my laptop froze up and nothing would work.
Had to hold down the power button to shut laptop down .....I then rebooted and downloaded the driver on the Acer site.
So far it's been good..cross my fingers...X
I hope the driver fixes the problem because I don't want to have to replace the card. -
Yo all, i just ran acer uk to ask them if anyone had reported the problem with the wireless and if there was any fix. The guy told me i was the first to mention it, he said if a number of people had the problem they should report it and get it flagged --- long story short, ring and complain

Ah wait! Check out the acer.co.uk website for the 8943G. Under the drivers page there is a new broadcom wireless lan driver out which fixes the problem apparently
Wireless LAN -- Broadcom -- Wireless LAN Driver (Resolves the problem where the Broadcom WLAN card randomly drops the connection) 5.100.57.8 -- 23.9 MB -- 2010/09/01 -
'resolves the problem where the Broadcom WLAN card randomly drops the connection.'
So they certainly know about it. And, incidentally, that driver is the one that was shipped with my 8943, and it isn't working.
ETA: I've just seen your second post. I haven't tried that driver. Thanks for the update. I'll give it a go. -
On another note, what is your general review on this laptop? Just wanting to know cuz i'm thinking of upgrading from my current 8930G. Top of the range bad boy with, 7200rpm disks not the 5400 on this model. -
I've installed that new driver. When I first tried, after uninstalling the old driver, it locked up my laptop completely. I then went into Safe Mode, and installed it successfully. But it doesn't work. I get this error message:
Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52) -
I never removed the old driver..I just downloaded the new driver .
I know I should have deleted the old one first but I didn't .It's working so no complaints as of now.
I hope it does the job.
Try installing the old driver again then just install the new driver without deleting the old one and see if that helps.
You never know with Acer.
REPORT BACK WITH A UPDATE.
THANKS !

Initial progress report:
After several efforts to get the driver installed over a couple of days, I've finally succeeded. Why it installed correctly this time, I've no idea.
It's only been installed for a couple of minutes, so it's too early to be really sure, but so far the connection is steady. I'll report back later when I've discovered if it's OK in the long term. -
It's surprising what a difference 1.7" makes. This is much smaller and lighter. But the screen isn't so viewable over wider angles; you have to be dead centre to get the best picture. It's also surprising how little difference the extra 4Gb RAM makes. I remember reading a magazine that did a report on the effect extra RAM has, and the conclusion was - not much. In fact, it actually seems slower.
The fan seems to be noisier, and it's on most of the time. I like the keyboard.
I've only had it for a short while, so I may change my views, but, so far, I'm a little disappointed. And at about £1500 that hurts. -
Hi Jim in Kentucky - many thanks for all the extremely helpful advice and research you have come up with - I am a Professional Photographer in the Lake District in Great Britain and I could do with some help re my Acer 8943g with 16gb of ram, re the WiFi card you suggest fitting, - is this the card you mean? and where the heck is the one screw or slot where it fits, - Acer are a dead loss, just as everyone else says, but I have reported the issue to Amazon where I purchased this laptop from (cost £1800 pounds) and they are investigating it.

Hi folks, - thanks for the response, but before i buy the card, can anyone explain to me where on the laptop does it slot in??
-
.... sorry, not the USB card, I mean the Intel WiFi card, viewable on the link in my first question.
-
It's a really simple install and it honestly takes longer to remove the back plate than the few seconds it takes to swap in the new card. Just install the drivers before putting in the new card (the card should come with a new driver CD), and once you reboot the system you're good to go.
The only other recommendation I'd have for you is to make sure to unplug the system and take out the battery as a precaution before installing the new card, and put down a towel to rest the laptop on when changing it so you don't scratch up the cover. It's really a pretty straightforward install and you'll be up and running with the new card in just a few minutes. -
Guys,
Has anyone purchased an Intel Advanced-N 6200 card that is the "engineering sample only" version? I got one of these off of eBay, and it seems to be incompatible with the standard intel drivers for this card (from Intel's website), which are I guess intended for the retail/consumer release.
I was really dissapointed when I realized that the card that I got wouldn't work with the drivers. The computer can see the card. It's detected as the right model/make, however after installing the drivers the card powers itself off and becomes unusable.
Anyway, eBay is flooded with these engineering sample versions. Some sellers claim that they have drivers for it on a disc that is included with the card. Does anyone perhaps have drivers for the ES version that they are willing to share?
Thanks. My Acer Aspire 8943G could really use this card to work around the disconnect issues.

This may seem obvious but has anyone looked at device manager> network adapters>Broadcom 802.11n.
If you go to properties> power management, there is an option to allow the computer to tun off this device to save power. I unticked it after installing the new driver and I've been fine so far. -
Many thanks to Geese1. I have bought and installed the Intel card, and it seems to have solved the problem. I did have problems installing the driver, though. It couldn't do it automatically, and I had to select the correct driver manually. ( x56h34 - could that be your problem?)
gibsonus - no, I hadn't thought to check that, and now I've installed the Intel card, I can't. But I would be interested to know if this solves the problem for anyone else. I haven't ever had to check this for any other wireless card, though. -
I have noticed that it only lost the connection when I was in an application like a game (usually someting fullscreen). I think that would suit the environment where it would put the connection to sleep to save power because I've not been using it.
So far so good. I'll play Independence war and see if it stays on(classic space sim
Update: Its been running constantly for 12 - 13 hours and has stayed connected. -
That's solved it. Install the new driver then go to: device manager> network adapters>Broadcom 802.11n>properties> power management. Uncheck the box that says allow device to sleep when not in use to save power.

Just wanted to thank everyone who's contributed solutions to this thread.
From my POV:
1) the 8943 dropped wifi a few times a day, from day one
2) the updated drivers made no difference (sort it out Acer!)
3) the Intel card has sorted it immediately. £16 from eBay well spent.
Grates slightly on a £1200 brand new laptop but life's too short to spend it on the phone to poor customer service teams!
Cheers,
Alex -
I don't want to be a pain. But I am thinking of getting this laptop as my HP is crap to be honest. Was wondering if the "wireless issues" are really that bad. And if replacing them with my old intel 3945 card would fix them if I come across the same problem.
-
-
Cool thanks, just checking really. I'm guessing that it uses the half size pci-e wireless card right?
-
-
I have owned my 8943G for a year and a half and have the same issue. Micro Center has replaced the card twice and the whole laptop once. I have resorted to an external wireless adaptor and it now works fine. When I go back 30 to 40 minutes and down it goes. Otherwise laptop is great. Micro Center called Acer and they stated it is a common problem with the 8943G.
-
Cool thanks for the feedback guys. Sounds like Acer for you... Meh I kinda love the look of the lappy so I'll just get myself a new wireless pci card incase. Got a couple of tiny usb ones already
Thanks again for the heads up!

Jim,
I have ordered the Intel 6200 card as per your post. I am quite a novice but would you mind breaking down the full steps to how I can install the new card to fix the wireless drop problem please?
For example - do I unscrew the back cover? and whereabouts is the current card located etc?
Many thanks in advance.
Neil. -

I thought it was just the sketchy WiFi I have in my house due to all the plaster. I'll have to get a new card.
