    Hello rajkosto,

How can i flash your PEW7130_MoreOptionsMorePages_UefiBoot_HackedBds.zip with DOS tool from last official Acer 1.30 bios update? i'm asking you because i think from windows i'm not able to flash the fd file with Windows version.
I have 5742g and i like to use your moded bios attached, so please let me know the best way to flash the fd file.

    Thank you.

    EDIT:
I think i found the way how to flash it from windows, i have just download the 1.24 version from previous posts and i saw that i can replace the 1.24 FD file with 1.30 FD file and i have also changed the rom file with one from official bios , when i arrive home i will test your 1.30 file and hope to everything be ok.

LAST EDIT: i've tested your fd file and i working, thank you mate.

    Regards.

Hello guys, i'm Traace from German. I registred here cause i saw the Thread about the 5742G.

Please help me to solve my issue, this is the only Notebook i got -.-

My problem. I flashed a modded 1.30(somewhere from China Hoster). It was working fine, but i disabled "HT". Now my Notebook is dead. Black Screen, Light Power Key. System shutdown after about 20seconds

    Things that i already tried:
    - Tried to Recovery Bios using Recovery Method with ESC+FN. Not working. I used 2 different USB sticks (on lower right USB Slot, i tried other but also no luck), one FAT the other FAT32 and the DVD Method too. Nothing working, my filename is PEW71X64.fd witch should be okay.
    - Removed CMOS Battery (Yeah it was hard to do) and leave it for 2days without any Power Source or Battery.
    - Jumper Method(To clear CMOS) with JP8 Jumper. Another Jumper Method with the 4 Point Block Jumper (They got 2 names on the side of it).

I would be so thankful if anybody will help me.

    Best regards

    Traace

Sorry, but the only way to get your device fixed is either 1) replace the motherboard or 2) buy a new SPI ROM (aka BIOS) chip, get somebody to replace the one in the mobo.

You see, the Acer 5742 mobos always save their settings in the BIOS chip itself. If you happen to enable a setting which causes brick, nothing except mobo or BIOS replacement will make your device work again.

I just did the same mistake as you, and now I've ordered a new BIOS chip and will have a friend of mine do the replacement procedure. I will post in this thread (or start a new thread), when I know if the BIOS replacement works or not.

BTW better not get depressed because of what happened. I went through a mental breakdown because of this, only to realise that this is life. That's just a laptop that got bricked due to my hobby of tampering with stuff. So I just gotta take responsibility and get the device fixed.

    Hello to everybody!

I did read trough the forum, but somehow a lot of things unclear to me.
First, my son computer is an acer aspire5742g with gt520M card and try to install hackintosh on a second hdd (DVD-bay). first hdd is windows7-64bit (inside). When I try to boot never see two hdd together in boot menu and usb with bootloader chimera not displayed. (all that is working on my own asus pc). So wondering to try to install your bios mod, but can not find instruction manual. I understand I can update my 1.3 acer bios using PEW7130.fd, but not clear how. I did use PEW71130.EXE win version from acer support site for 1.3 update. Some reffered links not working but I downloaded acer rom package, with inside winflash folder, but that is 5742_124 version. Probalbly need to replace PEW71124.fd version with PEW71130.fd and hope is the Insydheflash.exe need to use for the flah?., and because I have allready 1.3 need to edit platform.ini flag=0. am I wright?
More question FN ESC power up did put back the original acer version of 1.3 or cmos batterry remove? if anything going to fail? because I don't want screw up the PC, and i see some guys did. What about hyperthreading, some people complaind that screwed up their laptop?
The optimus sticker what about? Will the mod i can disable video card Intel or Nvidia or both?
I know is lot of questions, but anybody can help me?

    Hi rajkosto,

I flashed your modded bios, and have been fooling around some.
Can you advise me how I could achieve a manual fancontrol or even an interface to the OS?
The rEFIt (or was it rEFInd, dunno right now) launcher you made does not find anything in my Efi System Partition, which is Fat32, 1Gb and filled with binaries for ia32 and x64 efi, tried all the different parts.

    Hi rajkosto.

Thanks for the great work, I flashed my Aspire 5742 (without G) with your modded 1.30 bios, UEFI works perfect and I was able to install W7 in UEFI mode.
However, I have a question. When Windows comes out of hibernation, I get a startup message saying that the firmware of my system did not keep the memory map while hibernating (French Windows version here, translation may not exactly match the english version). So I choose to continue resuming, and then I get the 0xc0000411 error and I have to hit Enter to restart the system. After restart, it says the last attempt to resume from hibernation has failed. I choose to continue resuming anyway, and I get back to my saved session with no other problem.

Any ideas about what happens ?

I don't need to hibernate my system often, so it's not a big deal in the end, but still I would like to know exactly what's going on. Maybe is it a driver issue ?

UPDATE : Neither does hibernate work in Linux (tried with Ubuntu 14.04 to no avail).
(and splash screen doesn't show up in both operating systems during the boot process).

I'm about to upgrade an i3 380m to the i7 740qm. Any suggestions about that anyone ?
Do I need a bios update or smt like that ? I'm guessing it's compatible no ?

Edit: I already went ahead and updated my bios anyways from 1.17 (or something like that) to 1.30. ;)
Will get the new processor next week so if ppl are interested in what I get ask me and I shall answer. :p

If BIOS not support, you will get a message that microcode is unnown every time you turn it on, Windows will work anyway.
Also look if temps are okay with stresstest.
If it works you ram go to 1333 Mhz and support 16 Gb.
Good luck, let me now !

Just tested it today. It doesn't work.
Reason: i7-740qm does not support my Intel HD integrated gpu, and there's no way I can use my 540m dedicated gpu to take over.
Disabling the integrated gpu renders my screen black and there's no way that I know to change that. With the new processor windows starts but there's no image just to be clear.

Bottom line, if your dedicated gpu can't take over as primary instead of your integrated one, you need to get a processor that supports that integrated GPU. Nvidia Optimus is a bi*ch...
In my case, the best processor that I can get is the i7-640m dual core.

To provide a few more details for the passerby and interested folk: I have an Acer Aspire 5742g i3-380m (2.53gHz) proc, intel HD integrated gpu,Nvidia 540m 1gb dedicated gpu and an Intel HM55 Motherboard with a Socket G1 AKA rPGA 988A for the CPU and with bios version 1.30. I believe those were the core and important things to know.

    Happy upgrading/modding folks! :)

Thanks for the info, a shame it didn't work for you.
But to be shure and avoid misunderstanding, there is only a Intel HD integrated gpu inside the dualcore cpu's, i7-720 to i7-940 have no one on board so the can not support it.

Don't nothing about Nvidia Optimus, but can you see anything before windows start up ?
Can you look in the BIOS ?
If yes, then you can try to install a clean windows en see what happend if you install Nvidia drivers later, or for testing a boottable Linux live CD.
I have only a Radeon HD 5470 in it, so i can not tell.
Please try it before removing it.

About the i7-640m, i think it will be much faster than i7-740m, and even with Quadcore software, it wil be a little bit slower than i7-740m.

    Good luck with trying.

    Hi guys,

I was wondering whether this modded bios has any options to either power on from usb or wake from usb (I'm using the laptop with an external monitor, mouse and keyboard and I can't launch it without opening the lid). I do see 'wake from PME' but I imagine that only works for network events and not anything via usb.

Also is there any chance of a brick if these commands are used?

    thanks.

Aspire 5742-382g50Mnkk , SNID 10106875216 . if you've the same model may try . works great

PS: the unlocked option in bios is a bit overwhelming ,at least for me .

    once again thank you rajkosto

    Hi guys ,

sorry to ask ,but i'm desperate and broke , buying a new mobo is not an option.

    I have an acer 5742G 374G32Mnkk intel HM55 chipset with a damaged ATI 5470 Card , i did a reflow but it didn't last long :(.

I was wondering if it's possible to use the CPU i3 370M integrated intel graphics , i'm 100% sure that the cpu has it except theres nothing on the system that indicates it (device manager,Bios).

so my question is will this modded bios allow me to enable it and use it instead of the damaged ATI ?

    Thanks.

Hello all, I've read through this thread at least twice and I am still left with questions. The thread is dedicated to a modded BIOS for the 5742G. I have a 5742 (plain vanilla).

Will this modded BIOS work on this model as well?
Still not clear: What exactly does this modded BIOS unlock and/or do?

I am interested in upgrading my cpu. What is the highest CPU usable with this motherboard with and without the mod? (I understand that the modded BIOS reads microcode of more CPUs??)

    thanks

I have the 5742zg model. It has amd radeon hd6370m so I can't use NoATI. I tried ACER5742G_130_MoreOptionsMorePages_UEFIBOOT.rar . It worked but brightness is always at the minimum possible value, i can't change it. Any way to fix this issue?

    @bardos
This will enable some hidden pages in bios. The highest tested processor is i5 580m with a max of 8gb (4x2dimm) 1066mhz ram.

I can actually fix this issue by pressing twice [FN] + [LEFT ARROW] and then [FN] + [RIGHT ARROW] every time it boots.
