Has anyone else noticed their battery seems to fit kinda loosely?

Every time I pick my laptop up, I put my hand underneath were the battery is and I can feel it wiggle a little bit. No big deal I guess, but kinda annoying.

Does anybody know the maximum HDD capacity for the 5920G? I am planning to upgrade it from 160GB to 320GB. Is it possible?

Mine arrives tomorrow. What drivers do you recommend? Also is the crapware that bad/easy to remove?

Hi, I'm Amogh. I bought an Acer Aspire 5920 Notebook and its configurations are:

    1) IntelCore2DuoProcessorT5550 (1.83GHz,667MhzFSB,2MDL2Cache
    2) 3GBDDR2
    3) 320GB HDD

I've been using a Windows Vista Ultimate Trial Version upto now which came with the notebook. Its now expired and I've been asked to renew my license but buying a full version is expensive as compared to Home Premium[Rs.9,000\- for Ultimate to Rs.5,000 for Home Premium].

I'm confused as to whether I should install Windows Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate. I'll be using the computer for my personal use but also for the office, i.e., Word, Excel Sheet, Adobe, Outlook and mainly for movies and games. Are the extras in Vista Ultimate worth the premium over Home Premium(couldn't be clearer, sorry guys) What would you guys recommend to me? Please don't leave the decision to me as I can't make a choice and would rather have expert advice backing my choice.

Next Question: I've been using the 64bit version of Vista Ultimate and it did really good.My notebook was super fast or atleast felt that way. Should I install the 64bit version or the 32bit version?[When I make a choice about which version]

Next Question: With the retail pack I'll be getting both the 32bit and 64bit versions. Can use them separately - one installation for my notebook and the other for my PC?[Ideally I'd like to install the 64bit version on it and the 32bit on the PC]

Also, I've not been able to use my 'empowering technology' function at all. how do I activate it?

Please let me know if you will need any more information about my notebook.
    Please Help.

    Thanks Guys.

    I've got the 5920 and it's a good notebook.

I use Home Premium x64 and it pretty much works flawlessly, so if you've been working with the 64bit version and you've had no issues, then my choice would be to stick with it. All of the things that you listed that you do on the notebook, you will be able to do them all on Home Premium no problems. I've never used Ultimate so I can't say what you will be losing but if you check here on microsofts site you can compare editions.

When you buy the retail version of Windows and you get both the 32 bit and 64bit media, you will only get one product key. So you will only be able to use that version on one machine. But if your laptop has a product key on the bottom of it, you can use that for your laptop and the product key that came with the version you buy for your PC, you will have no problems.

    Hi

I'm just thinking about getting this laptop and i'm getting a bit scared of all the talk of hidden partitions, bloatware, acer arcade and stuff...

when I buy it, i don't even want to boot it - I want to wipe it completely, and do my own install of XP pro on it, and install a suite of programs that i know and like. I am not interested in recovery partions - (I can rebuild an OS, and I back up data to a network harddrive) no software they think i might like, and above all no blasted vista!!

I noted there were XP drivers availbale from the acer FTP site? what are these like?

I'm a pretty experienced PC engineer, i've been building and fixing desktops for years, but this will be my first new laptop

Hope someone out there has done this already.

    Cheers

Ive got an Acer 5920, had it for a year now and the battery life is getting worse. Does the Acer 5920 come with a 6 Cell battery? Can anyone recommend a good extended battery? I've seen this which looks fine to me:

    http://www.battery-locator.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=866

Ive got an as07b32 model battery in there which is 14.8V and 4800mAh. The link below shows the same battery so its no point getting the same battery right? Or have the cells in my current battery dried out? I've had for almost two years.

I just installed Windows 7 from a fresh, would you recommend I install Acer ePower to make my battery last longer?

As it stands I installed the CS4 suite and other essentials (Avast, Firefox, nVidia drivers) on a 100% charged battery... oh and copied about 2GB worth of backup files onto the D drive. All this took about 2 hours and the battery has gone down to 10% already, is that normal?

Is there a way I can underclock the GPU, I dont need the nVidia 8600G running at 100% all the time, especially as most of the time Im just watching videos and using CS4 suite.

Hi, isn't that correct, if you leave it on idle without being connected to the mains you are still using the battery to power the lcd and the OS will be performing maintenance in the background...

has anyone upgrade their as5920 to windows 7? I have read some of the thread here about temp. freezing after upgrade to windows 7. I like the windows 7 on the desktop, it is much faster than Vista. Dose anyone have any though on this. What is the success rate of upgrade?

I tried windows 7 on mine and was getting lots of errors like vista did when it first came out. I would wait a while until sp1 come out for it. May be a while thought

To gates59, thank you for the reply. I will take your advise and wait for a while, plus the laptop is only a year old. Happy holidays everyone.
