Link doesn't work. This is a new Bios? I'll see if I can find it. My screen isn't an LG but I'll give it a try. I got an RMA awhile ago and still haven't sent it in... lazy me...

I just ran BIOS update 3310 and it fixed the flicker issue. Good thing too, because it was starting to really annoy me.

    I'm on a EC1454u gateway, which is essentially a rebranded AS1410.

Also, the BIOS flasher is chock full of lols.

How did it fix the flicker issue?

I'm afraid all they do is change the brightness table so that the minimum brightness becomes much brighter than it is currently. That's the easiest way for them to reduce visible flicker (assuming it's caused by the backlight, which is usually the case unless something else is horrible wrong).

Can you please comment on the min/max brightness levels after you updated to 3310?

On my 1810TZ, I can adjust brightness from 10% to 100%.

The new Packard Bell Dot M/U bios 3303 did not fix the HDMI screen flicker on my Packard Bell Dot M/U.

Wow when I tried the Acer 3310 bios on my Packard Bell, the bios update did not even warn me that it is not an Acer that I am trying the bios. It instantly started the erasing and reflashing.

Now my Packard Bell Dot M/U is running the Acer 3310 bios and it seems to be okay. Still thinks it is a Packard Bell and the 3310 version is shown with CPU-Z. Pretty cool proof that the Packard Bell Dot M/U and the 1410 acer indeed are the same system :).

Okay I am now again using the HDMI out and hopefully this new Acer bios does cure my screen flickering issues.

Hmm, it does not fix the HDMI flicker issue, I still get those even with the latest 3310 BIOS installed :(. Oh well. Back to the VGA out then.

    What HDMI flicker issue?

Yeah, the BIOS for Acer 1410/1810/etc., Gateway EC1803h, equivalent Packard Bell models, etc. is exactly the same. It contains all versions, checks which one you have (i.e. Acer or Gateway or PB), and displays the appropriate BIOS "theme" (i.e. logos, layout, fonts, etc.).

I know this because the BIOS upgrade that came with a DVD for my Gateway EC1803h was byte-for-byte identical to the same BIOS version I found for an Acer 1410.

Ok, I've updated the BIOS on my Gateway EC1803h from v1.3303 to v1.3310 (from Acer.com site, the BIOS for Aspire 1410/1810 is universal BIOS that applies to all rebranded version of this laptop, Acer 1410/1810, Gateway EC1800, etc.).

I checked using Everest, and the LCD in my laptop is definitely made by LG.

Here are my findings. Yes, the LCD backlighting used to flicker slightly at the lowest brightness. It was barely noticeable.

I'm happy to report they did not fix the backlighting flicker by making lowest brightness settings unavailable (like they've done with the Aspire One A110 models, it's just horrible cuz the min brightness is too bright). I've verified before and after brightness levels, and they remain unchanged. But the flicker is completely unnoticeable now, so it was a good fix. :D

Now as long as the battery life remains unaffected, I will say this is a good BIOS update and wholeheartedly recommend everyone to update to it!

I use an external screen with HDMI input and 1920x1200 pixels resolution. The screen goes on and off when the computer is used. The screen just goes to blank and a few seconds later it is on again.

This happend only once while I was using the notebook on a Sony KDL-55EX500 tv with 1920x1080 pixels but I cannot work with that computer reliably when I use a 1920x1200 pixel resolution screen.

As soon as I use the analog VGA out, the problem goes away. Therefore it is solely related to the HDMI out. I don't know if this is a defect or not.

The issue is not related to the HDMI input on my monitor, it is working just fine with a Mac Mini Aluminum running Windows 7.

Sorry, that has never happened to me. But I haven't used HDMI out very much, and I've mostly done 1920x1080 or less to a TV, rather than 1920x1200. :/

Checked back on this thread after a long time... hope it doesn't bother anyone to bump it up, but I noticed flickering was talked about in other 1410 threads to and I wanted people to see that in this thread, at least, a solution was found with a BIOS update.

I never did send mine in for warranty work... I'm going to try that BIOS update tonight :) thanks all.

Supposedly the BIOS update on the 1410 can fix the LGs so hopefully they'll be able to do it for yours. Mine is an AUO :(
