Congratulations on becoming an owner! That's great that you got the free CPU upgrade too!
Let me know if you're interested in matching up either of your 2GB RAM pieces (I'm selling mine). -
Cool, so you did end-up with the nightly special of 26900 for i3-350m and 3 gifts, even though you didn't go that route...
On a related news, apparently some i5-460m 3820TG has made it to Taiwan through special business/education purchase...so hopefully the regular retailers will get them soon. -
Yes, received same as nightly (i3-350m), but ordered the 24 hour deal (i3-330m) that seems to always be there.
-
I've completed some benchmarks of the i3-350m/5650, which is still available at PChome, and posted results in owners lounge.
Quick summary so far while testing with 3dm2k6.
Video card maxes out at 650/1100.
i3-350m Overclocks great!
i3-350m has hit a "real all core" speed (not single core Turbo) of 2862MHz so far (168fsb).
3dm2k6 best so far of 9243.
Temperatures of CPU and GPU maxed right around 80c. -
Amazon.de claims that they will have the 3820TG with the i5 450M and the HD 5650 on September 4.
Acer Aspire TimelineX 3820TG-5454G64nks 34 cm Notebook: Amazon.de: Computer & Zubehör
The information in the table doesn't match the title though: Acer Aspire TimelineX 5454G64nks 3820TG-34 cm (13.4 inches) notebook (Intel Core i5 450M 2.4 GHz, 4GB RAM, 640GB HDD, ATI HD 5650, Win 7 HP)
I need to have it in my hands by September 15 though (and with an English keyboard)... -
^Will that one have the English keyboard?
-
No ... that's essentially the same model I bought from Computeruniverse. German Operating system and keyboard.
Keyboard is an easy swap if you stay away from the backlit mod.
Clean install of an english operating system is easy too. Will Amazon.de ship to the US? I don't think they will. Germany seems to be the only place with I5's still on sale.

-
i doubt it, all german computer will carry german keyboard.
-
Yes, but as you mentioned earlier, Germany no longer ships to the North America.
-
Is there any way to order this thing and have the keyboard and OS fully english?
-
Computeruniverse won't ship. I was wondering about Amazon.de. It's odd that no other retailers in Germany ship internationally. You would think any retailer in the EU would at least ship to the entire EU. Wasn't that the whole idea of the EU in the first place?

I think the Singaporean models have both an English version of W7 and the US/International keyboard. We just have not seen any units imported from there. Before I purchased my unit from Germany, I was dealing with Singapore (Firdouse) and was trying to see if they would import a unit for me.

where does it say computeruniverse will no longer ship to usa. i can choose usa as the destination and dhl as the shipper playing briefly on their site.
-
Complete the transaction and they will tell you that they do not ship computers to the USA if they have Li-Cad batteries. I know you can still configure it on the site ... they just won't ship it.
Bronsky
-
I have also e-mailed them and they have responded that they are not able to ship to the US because lithium ion batteries are restricted. =X
-
doh. i thought that was just canada. you learn something new every day. just a thought but does that mean we will never see it in the usa distributed unless they change the battery?
-
No

See Post #913 above.
Survey says ... yes.

The EU was a noble intent and dream. Having worked in international finance and foreign exchange, I can state that the EU is actually a big joke.
The United Kingdom was wise in not pegging their currency to the Euro. Germany wishes they had done the same.
Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece, and Spain (the PIIGS countries) are dragging the euro and the rest of the EU down with it. -
LOL!
Until we see one imported from there, it's like pie in the sky. So for me, the answer is still "no"! -
Has anyone in the US tried ordering the i5-450m version from these sites:
notebook.de
total price is around $1095 shipped by UPS to the US (but German version)
Osoo.co.uk
UK version with radeon 5470 instead of 5650 $1060 shipped
there is a German website with the i5-460m but they don't ship to the US:
http://www.cyberport.de/1C26-853/1C26-853deep.html -
Notebook.de did a lot of international shipping when the carried the LG P310. When we were exploring German shippers, I know that we checked with Notebook.de and they were not shipping to the US at that time. It would be great if they were shipping units. They were very reliable with the P310s.

Just placed my order for the i3 5650 version on PCHome. I'll upgrade the processor myself and drop a SSD in. =D
-
Things seem quiet. Come on acer! gimme a i5-460 option!
-
I am impressed that acer could put such a powerful card in such a thin machine and have no reported heat issues.
-
*long time lurker , never had anything relevant to say*
I've been trying to order the night special/24 hours special since Friday . I kept getting paypal error 4002 *argggg* . Now it look like is officially out of stock . If anyone want to depart from their 3820Tg , give me a msg x] .
*Nvm is back in stock but I'm still getting Paypal error Message 4002 * -
This thread sure has gone cold.
Everybody just waiting for some more of those I5's to show up.
-
I actually purchased my first 3820tg from notebook.de a month ago. They do deliver to the US. However, you would have to *really* want the laptop to purchase from them.
They can't accept credit card payments for some reason, you have to do a transfer from your bank account to theirs. Also they charge you for VAT upfront. They gave me a VAT reimbursement form along with the laptop, but to this day I have no idea what to do with it (it's all in German).
All that said, their customer service was fantastic, impeccable even. And the shipping was relatively fast via UPS. -
Thanks for the information. Even with the VAT, the german units might still be competitive with the Taiwaneese units. Better yet, Noteboook.de still has I5's. http://www.notebook.de/index.php?section=shop&group=1292#31480 Thanks for the info. Plus, if you figure out how to fill out the forms, you can get back 14% of your purchase price.

Question is, where will those i5's show up? Stateside, hopefully.
-
I really dont understand why those arent being released in north america seeing as there is such a huge demand. (i mean just look at this thread).
-
Just buy the cheapest i3 model and upgrade it yourself =D
That's what I"m doing! i7-620m purchased and ready to install =D -
Because Acer doesn't have the required volume of parts to make the number of notebooks needed to supply such a huge market. It was a business desicion and Europe won because there is a larger margin of profit to be made there. The US is a pretty inelastic market.
-
where do i get the 5650 from?
-
sigh...
I've lost all patience waiting for the 3820TG to be available in the US and don't want to deal with ordering from overseas. With even the 4820TG consistently running out of stock from all retailers, I decided to jump on it as soon as it became available again and TD just got some more in. At least with the 4820TG, I'll have the option of running an SSD and having a secondary HDD.
-
Because most Americans are happy buying the POS that is Dell or the overpriced stuff that is HP.
Plus, $499 seems to be the most people in the US want to spend on a laptop. -
I like that option. A 128GB SSD would clearly suffice at that point and data could be easily stored on the secondary 7200rpm drive. Here's a question - "what would happen if you put a momentus hybrid drive as the secondary drive?" Would it speed up data transfer from the SSD to the Hybrid?

It looks like many stores in the Czech Republic and China now have the i5-460m model in stock, including newegg china, but none seem to ship to the US:
Newegg China -
I might just have to try that out. I currently have a Corsair F120, although it may be going back to the retailer due to a number of issues with this drive. I'm thinking if I return it, I might just go with a OCZ Vertex 2 60gb and a Seagate XT as the secondary for roughly the same price as the Corsair F120.
-
yes!!! that's one step away from PChome. Come on my taiwanese retail heros!
-
memory capacity 2GB? ?
-
Momenus XT's flash speeds reads, not writes.
-
I really have to jump out and ask the question now. I'm in US but I can probably find friends in both China or Canada. So, should I jump for newegg China's deal with 2G memory and 5650 or should I just get the Canada one with 4G memory and 5470? I understand 5470 is far less powerful than 5650 but since I'm a complete non-gamer, how much does it matter? (I do run MATLAB from time to time though) Once you convert everything to US dollars, the one with 5470 is almost $300 cheaper. (Of course I assume the price I saw on Staples is the price I pay in Canada, correct me if I'm wrong)
-
If you are not a gamer and even if you were a light gamer, don't think twice.Jump on the Canadian model.
-
Agreed ... the HD5470 will give you decent GPU accelleration for Matlab. The only time you would see any benefit from the more powerful GPU is if you are using very sophisticated plug ins for Matlb, like the aerospace engineering package.
BTW ... Zsero says that the 460M is now available in Eastern Europe. Taiwan should see them soon. -
Cool, thanks. BTW, just curious, given that 3820TG is fairly easy to upgrade, how difficult is it to upgrade the video card in the future? It seems that most people are upgrading CPUs instead of the video card.
-
The only way to upgrade the video card is to change the motherboard. The GPU is soldered in - not in a bracket. The good news is that you can get a remanufactured motherboard for $140 + $30 shipping. I have one on the way from China. I'll let you know how hard it is to install when I get it.

-
So are they selling mobos with upgraded CPUs on them (like the ATI 5850)?
-
You mean GPUs? AMD 5850 would make it really hot I would imagine. Haven't seen it on anything less than a 17".
Don't forget, theres also the 5830 that's on the Envy 15, but that too is a fairly hot piece of silicon.
