Also didnt it take this model 6 months to make it to NA? Even if acer updates this laptop we probably wont see it here till next summer at the earliest if not next fall.

The upgrade to 6xxx cards will probably happen relatively soon. Probably in the next 6-8 weeks. They are already out in Germany. We will probably not see sandybridge Mobile units in the 3830TG until the end of Q2.

In response to your PM, you should look at this. http://forum.notebookreview.com/6465732-post1612.html Let me suggest that you post your questions there as there are some very knowledgable owners. There are also quite a few owners who for their units from PCHome. They have more specific experiences converting from a Chineese OS which presents some unique problems.

Well yes, anyone who ordered from them and can provide me details on how to deal with them and give me their email address, it will be very helpful.

I intend on formatting and doing a fresh install so converting wont be necessary, am i wrong?

Correct. No need to convert but you might have to figure out a way to perform a back up with the Chineese language OS. That was the biggest hurdle people seemed to have. This might help with the clean install. http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...rks-tweaks-mods-upgrades-162.html#post6465732

Can you explain to me why would i need to perform a back up with the Chineese language OS? isnt it like formatting the desktop PC and installing a fresh copy of win 7 in english?

Snady Bridge/Ivy Bridge (LGA 1155) is a new line of processors, which will replace the current Nehalem/Westmere (LGA 1366 & 1156). Hence, it will base on a new motherboard.

Sandy Bridge (1st half of 2011) will emphasize on 32nm.

Ivy Bridge (2nd half of 2011) will emphasize on 22nm, and will phase out duo cores, and start at the quad core level.

It has charts for both the desktop and mobile processors.

After a lot of research I think I have decided the 3820 is the best fit for me. Ive been following this thread and the owners lounge thread for about a week. However I am still undecided on where to order from. The screen issue bothers me somewhat and ordering from Canada I wonder how returns would be handled. I'm assuming the acer warranty works no matter where you live so I guess thats good. Payment options seem to be limited to PayPal? Did anyone jump on the memory express deal for 699? LU Computeres seems to be the most popular option? I guess my exact question is, where should I order from? :p

When I ordered, I went with LU because, that day, it was the cheapest price I could find and they shipped to America. The process was super easy, and the fact that they are located in Canada had no impact on the buying process. It was just like ordering from NewEgg or Amazon. Good luck!

Because sometimes the drivers on the notebook are different or newer than the ones on the Acer site. It is advisable to make a back up of your system's drivers before doing a clean install. There is a way to copy them directly from the hard drive if you prefer that.

I just received my 3820tg from NCIX right now. I will be posting my thoughts and pictures soon. Stay tuned

P.s. I do not like how ncix packages its laptops. It looks cheap and unprofessional. No protection from impact damage because of the lack of bubble wrap, or foam cushioning. Shipping international this way is risky, I hope it works. Trying to swap out the keyboard for a US one ATM

Right on. LU sounds like the best bet. The extra 50 bucks is worth the peace of mind. Looks like they lowered it to 750 till the 8th as well. Ill procrastinate for one more day and then order it up. Thanks guys :D

    - Each box was contained ina slightly bigger box with no cushion

    -Us keyboard swap is easy

-<no problems with the unit, am very satisfied with it

-Havnt tested sc2 yet because its still dling

-trackpad surface isnt the best. I prefer my dell's

-battery showed 5 hours at 98% with default power saving options (balanced)

-<i dont like the heavy power adapter

NCIX was 725$ for the laptop I paid 754$ out the door that included shipping and insurance

    - Ordered 11/17 and received the unit 11/28 (I would say it would have gotten here eariler if it wasnt a holiday)

-For people swapping out the laptop you do not need to do anything special after installing. Windows asks you what type of layout you will use when you boot it up for the first time. Choose US

    - overall a good experience ordering from Canada

Thanks for posting pics. Nice notebook!

Where did you order your U.S. keyboard from? Link? In order to swap the keyboard, did you have to unscrew anything, or is it just simply pop out the key?

Did you configure a new copy of windows, or the one it comes with?

if you order from NCIX you can choose the 30$ insurance option that gives you free return shipping anytime there is an issue. other sites may possibly have this option as well. This is something I should have and hopefully wont regret not doing

I looked at the expressrma service but it didn't give me any indication that there was free[edit:RMA] shipping so I figured that it didn't.
I didn't quite understand that but I think either way you have to pay for it but I could be wrong. Theres also this
which gives you free rma shipping.

Why dont you try before posting. Its on the first page.

No I don't think there is a free shipping option. But with full insurance (not mandatory) and shipping it only comes out to 45$ us over the laptop price. Not bad at all considering you pay no sales tax

No I didnt mean free shipping, I ment free RMA shipping. I haven't heard anyone having to fix there laptop yet though so that's a good sign, probabably wouldnt need to use it anyway but still 50 bux for return shipping on an rma is crap.

well, hope its not complicated as i never had to install ram on a notebook

Well guys, I went with an M11x. Refurb for $499 for cyber monday, today only. SU7300 GPU, 4GB DDR3, GT 335m GPU, 250GB 7200RPM HDD. Couldn't pass that deal up.

I really like the 3820TG but for about $250 more, not sure it's worth that much to me.

Does the i3-370M present an issue when gaming, due to its heat limit of 90? Does it auto-shutdown the computer as a result?

If so, how easy is it to replace the processor? Is there a link to a guide on how to do it?

    No.
    No.
Not hard ... but you have to dissassemble the notebook down to the motherboard and turn it over to replace the CPU. I would not recommend it for the uninitiated.
There is a disassembly guide in the shop manual for the 3820TG and there is a post in the 3820TG owners' thread that has step by step instructions. You can probably find that by searching the thread. If not, leave a post there to see if anyone can post the link.

The I3 is more powerful that I expected. To be sure, you can feel the lack of turbo but the core is solid and the 3820TG has no problems keeping the heat in an acceptable range for the I3, which runs cooler than the I5.

Is the RAM they provide compatible? I heard earlier posts say the RAM did not match.

Also, how simple is installing the RAM? How does it compare to replacing the processor, much easier/much harder? I'm a hardware noob.

Adding memory is far impler than replacing the cpu. To add memory you just remove a couple screws to remove the rear access panel. To upgrade the cpu, you have to disassemble the entire laptop.
